Southport's Christmas Continental Market's first day is a hit.

Photographs by Patrick Trollope.

NOT so sunny Southport had a continental feel as Lord Street was taken over lots of market stalls.   You could have mistaken if you thought you were in Parris, that is if it was sunny.     Ok a few stalls where from Peterborough, but most of them came from all over France, Germany, Belgium, Holland and Spain.   This gave shoppers and tourists a really interesting time and a truly European experience.   On offer were all types of products from Bom Boms to French bread and cheese, even Crępes and handbags made in Parris.  I only got one bit of bad feedback, but the rest of the feedback was fantastic.  Most people commented "This is fun and a fantastic idea that livens up the town."   James from Liverpool told us "The stalls are a nice addition to the town.   With Liverpool getting European Capital of Culture in 2008, this is a fantastic way to get every one into the spirit."   Joanna Proctor said "I love the mix of languages and music styles as I walk along the street.   This would be fantastic in the summer!"

The market was organised by Sefton Council and Southport Business Village Partnership.   Ken Deary SBVP chair said:- "We welcome the Continental Market to our town and we hope it will boost sales for our towns shops and restaurants in the process."
