How do you like the idea of ‘being your own boss’? Of being responsible for a business with an annual turnover of more than £1m? And of managing a staff of over 60 people?

The McDonald’s Trainee Business Manager programme offers you the opportunity to do just that!

Running a McDonald's restaurant is commercial management in its fullest sense. As a Business Manager, you'll set targets, plan budgets, control stock, recruit, train and inspire your team, create and drive marketing campaigns and build bridges with the local community. Put simply, your ideas will shape your restaurant.

When you join our Management Development Programme, you'll see that our core principles of Quality, Service, Cleanliness and Value, guide everything we do. That doesn't mean, however, that management here is about swallowing the manual. On the contrary, it's about thinking around problems, applying your initiative and impressing your personality on your restaurant.
Every day will bring something new, as you'll discover and explore different ways of dealing with different issues.

You will benefit from a comprehensive training programme that will last from 2 – 3 years depending on how fast you want to progress. The learning curve is steep, but continual assessment of your progress ensures there is support and guidance every step of the way. All new managers benefit from continuous training, both on-the-job and in the classroom. There is a
carefully structured programme from Trainee Business Manager through to Area Operations Manager, with Management Development
Programmes designed to prepare and guide you to lead the business of the future.

MERSEYTRAM STATEMENT

LIVERPOOL City council met this morning to consider the current situation regarding Merseytram.

The Executive Board passed a resolution, agreeing that:-

* Alongside other local authorities in Merseyside, Liverpool reaffirms its support for the Merseytram project

* Notes that the funding gap for the project is still £67 million

* The city council's support for the Merseytram project requires Merseytravel not to increase the levy, or the burden to council tax payers, or use any additional tunnel fee income to close the gap

* Liverpool supports an all Merseyside approach to government to fund the £67 million to provide this much needed transport project

Women in the North West enjoy rapid rise to top of career ladder… at a cost!

“THANKS to the kindness and generosity of the UK public a further one million names have been added to the NHS Organ Donor Register during its 10th anniversary year. This is a phenomenal achievement and we are grateful to everyone who has come forward this year to make our 'Do it Now!' challenge into a 'We did it!' success story, with over 12.6 million names now on the register.

However, this isn't the end of the story. We know from research that the majority of the population, 90%, support organ donation. But with only 21% of people in the UK actually signed up, there is still a huge gap between people saying they support organ donation and those who have registered their wishes. It's also worth noting that people are more likely to need a transplant than become a donor.

In many instances, people simply haven't got around to registering or think that carrying a donor card is enough. If that's you, we urge you to Do it Now! Adding your name and details to the register is easy to do and serves as a secure record of your wishes in the event of your death.

To join, simply call 0845 60 60 400 or visit www.uktransplant.org.uk. And please remember to talk about your wishes with your family and friends. Their support would be needed to help fulfil your wishes if the time ever came. Every person who
adds their name to the register gives hope of improved life or life itself to the thousands of people currently on the transplant waiting list.”
Yours faithfully, Penny Hallett, Director of Communication and Public Relations, UK Transplant.

RUGBY FESTIVAL BRINGS CHILDREN TOGETHER IN ST HELENS

MORE than 100 youngsters took part in the world’s largest rugby football league festival for children at Blackbrook ARLFC in St Helens on Sunday 18 September 2005, supported by Co-op Travel at Bridge Street in St Helens. It was one of 34 venues across the region to be involved in the event, which was organised by the Rugby Football League to encourage more children to play the sport and to raise the profile of the game.

7 teams, aged under 11 years old, battled it out against each other at Blackbrook ARLFC in St Helens, joining over 11,000 children from 500 schools across the region. Each child was presented with a certificate for participating by Sue Reynolds, manager of the Co-op Travel store in St Helens, and a Fair Play award was given to the team that played most fairly.

Sue Reynolds said:- “We were delighted to sponsor a worthwhile cause that encourages youngsters to play sports and lead healthy lifestyles. It was wonderful to see so many turn out for the event and we hope they’ll continue to play rugby for many years to come.”

With a £496 million turnover, United Co-op Travel Group is one of the UK’s largest independent holiday retailers and a division of United Co-operatives.
