Match Reports for week ending February 26
Under 11

Harry Cope Cup Semi Final;  Ormskirk West End 1 v Town Green 2.   With a very strong wind coming down the pitch, it looked like it was going to be a game of two halves. West End had the advantage in the first half but against the run of play the away side took the lead through James McGregor. A tactical switch saw Ormskirk's Tom Molyneux move into a more customary role in midfield and he immediately started to dictate the play. One of many surging runs saw him smash the ball into the roof of the net from  ...continued...

They were matched blow for blow, with Jamie Wordsworth and Robert Jones in superb form, but a great run from Tom Peterson that started at the half way line and finished with him lobbing the keeper was enough to put Town Green through to their second final of the season.  Andrew Gamble was Town Green's MOM as was Tom Molyneux for West End.

Under 10; Rainford Rangers 0 v Town Green A 5.

Town Green were excellent value for this Under 10's fixture at Rainford. On a big pitch and with only seven players available every player was magnificent and contributed to the victory. A Conor McLean goal separated the teams at half-time followed by a David Taylor penalty early in the second half to make it 2.  Town Green took complete control at this stage and some excellent passing involving John Cain and Alex Muirhead contributed to a superb hat trick from Elliot Turner for the second game in succession. Luke Dwyer was solid in defence and Joe Molyneux made a fantastic penalty save. On a day when all of the team were candidates, man of the match was Alex Muirhead with a central midfield performance that he should be proud of.

Under 9; Southport Jnrs A 2 v Redgate Rovers A 0.

Redgate had to galvanise themselves for this match losing four players to the half term break, so with no recognised keeper they set about Southport keeping them pinned in their own half for the first ten minutes led by Michael Panes down the right wing. Redgate struck the bar after a great shot by Chris Muir, who controlled the midfield, and were then thwarted by a magnificent save by the Southport keeper from Dan Abdous.

Southport in their first attack of the half forced a corner, taking it quickly and catching Redgate, who were trying to organise themselves, cold. Anthony Brown and Sam Johnson worked a short corner and the ball into the box was inch perfect for Oliver Cunningham to power a magnificent header past the Redgate keeper and into the corner of the net.  Redgate again pressed Southport back only to be caught on the break. Following a scramble in the Redgate area James Smith SFCJ’s top marksman took advantage of some indecisiveness in the Redgate box to hammer a right foot drive home past keeper Ciaran McCarthy. Despite being upset by conceding this second goal, Ciaran was able to pick him self up and dive bravely at the feet of 2 Southport attackers ending their third and last attack of the first half.

In the second half Sam Bennett volunteered to go in goal for Redgate and Callum Lawson and Tom Ford came on to tighten things up for SFCJ with Jack Bainbridge slotting in to a midfield role. Bennet showed his versatility in pulling off a fantastic save at close range, one of the only real attempts that Southport had in this half.  Redgate continued to push for goals led by Craig Lowe their man of the match and were again unlucky striking the bar, unluckier still to meet the Southport goalkeeper Callum Jones who was easily their man of the match.  This game was played in good spirits by the boys in both teams.

Under 8; Redgate A 0 v Town Green A 2

Town Green 'A' met Redgate 'A' for the second time this season and right from the first whistle played some high tempo, attacking football. Tom Pearce and Ryan Dwyer were busy up and down the wings and provided plenty of quality crosses but they were not taken advantage of until Kieran Dowell collected the ball in the middle of the field and his shot beat the Redgate keeper for a 1-0 half time lead.

Redgate played a good long ball game but Sam Stubbs was reading the game well and was tidy at the back. Joel Maxwell's distribution of the ball was accurate and deep in to the second period, Dowell controlled the ball with his head and running at speed, fired home for his second. Redgate were well organised but Town Green were on top throughout and won 2-0.
