VENABLES RETURNS TO PICK MINI ENGLAND FOOTBALL TEAM
“EL TEL” ON LOOKOUT FOR MINI FOOTBALLERSFOR FISH FINGER MINIS SQUAD

TERRY Venables is returning as an England manager again, but this time to head up a Mini England Football team comprising eleven 6 to 12 year old kids who look just like the real England players. Venables, who is calling on all Everton and Liverpool football fans to help with the search, will select a final line up to star in an advert for the launch of the new Birds Eye Fish Finger Minis in time for the World Cup.

Running in tandem with the search for the mini versions of the players, Alex Curran, glamorous partner of England regular Steven Gerrard, is heading up a search to find a mini footballers’ wife to star along side the boys in the ad.

Helping Venables and Curran with their selection tactics will be specialist child look-a-like agency Juliet Adams, and the nation’s favourite, Captain Birdseye.

Terry Venables, himself a father of two, said:- “I’ll be choosing the squad based purely on looks, something which I have never done before. There must be loads of mini Gerrard’s, mini Linekar’s or mini Owen’s out there and I’m looking forward to welcoming them to my mini England football team and helping Birds Eye Mini Fish Fingers create what is sure to be one of the most humorous ads of the summer and the World Cup.”

A website has been created for prospective mini England players or mini footballers’ wives (or their parents) to apply the Birds Eye Mini Fish Fingers website.

TITANIC ANNIVERSARY

15 April sees the 94th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, a tragedy which continues to fascinate with its tales of heroism, bad luck and coincidence.

The Merseyside Maritime Museum marked the event by showing the public the remarkable collection it has that tells the story of the ill-fated boat and the White Star line including:-

  • an original life jacket worn by a Titanic survivor which was recovered from lifeboat number 9 by 19-year-old waiter.

  • a white cotton lady’s apron worn by Laura Mabel Francatelli on the night of the disaster. She was rescued in Lifeboat No.1 with her employers Lord and Lady Duff Gordon, who were travelling as First Class passengers. The cotton apron, with a bib front and decorated with broderais anglais edging and panelling and waist tie, may be the only item of clothing worn on the night of the disaster to have survived.

  • the original 20-foot long builder’s model of the ship restored by the Titanic Museum.

Fact file:-  On 15 April 1912 the huge White Star liner sank on its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York. The ship had 2,227 passengers on board when it struck an iceberg, sinking within two-and-a-half hours with the loss of over 1,500 lives. The wreckage from the  ‘unsinkable’ ocean liner was located in 1985 of the coast of Canada.

FREE COURSE FOR LIVERPOOL FILM WRITERS

BUDDING screenwriters from Liverpool will be given the chance to develop their story ideas into film scripts, at a free one-day workshop later this month.

In a bid to find the next Frank Cottrell Boyce (Millions, 24 Hour Party People), North West Vision (the TV and film development agency for England’s Northwest) has invited one of the industry’s most respected film professionals to teach the foundations of writing short films to new talent.

Phil Parker (advisor to the UK Film Council and course director of the MA Screenwriting programme at the London College of Printing) will host the workshops, which are open to anybody who has an interesting idea and wants to write a short film script.

This workshop is one of three opportunities across the Northwest and courses will also be held in Salford and Cumbria. During the sessions, Phil Parker will look at the common problems with short films and explore possible solutions, including the different structures available to the short filmmaker. Phil will illustrate different approaches to short film narrative.

The doors at each venue will open at 9.00am and will be closed once the course is full. Places for the schemes will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis so applicants are advised to turn up early.

Alice Morrison, Chief Executive at North West Vision said:- “Short film is an extremely effective way of developing emerging filmmaking talent. It can be a stepping-stone to making feature films and is increasingly becoming a respected medium in it’s own right. With North West Vision’s Digital Shorts Scheme being launched in the near future, we would strongly advise people to take advantage of these free courses.”

Filmmaker Rick Mcleod went on a previous session with Phil Parker and enjoyed it so much that he is going again, he said:-  “The workshop gave me a much better insight into how to create a short story and this year’s course will act as a refresher for me. I currently have an idea for a feature film in mind and I intend to film a shorter version in order to market this to the industry.”
