Town Green A 5 Town Green B 0
Town Green A opened the scoring with a run down the right hand side,
which resulted in a goal from Nathan Peet. A 2nd goal soon followed
when Connor Tierney found himself unusually on the left hand side
and with an excellent right footed cross found George Newell, who
controlled the ball and coolly scored the 2nd.
The pattern of play
continued throughout the 2nd half with TGA dominating possession.
Kieron Turner, after a superb individual run, scored a further goal.
TGA were solid in defence with Theo Chrisokhou, in particular,
battling for every ball and providing some brilliant passes to
midfield from his defensive position. Connor Stockwell made some
good runs and was unlucky not to get on the score sheet himself.
Jack McGregor rounded off a fine team performance with 2 well taken
late goals.
Despite the scoreline,
Town Green B never stopped fighting and their goalkeeper, Jamie
Lonsdale, in particular, pulled off some excellent saves and was
outstanding in goal. He thwarted many a TGA move and denied them
further goals through his superb saves. The whole team deserve
recognition for their true fighting spirit and their ability to keep
fighting when the odds stacked up against them. They should be proud
of themselves for never giving up and battling continuously. The
game was played in fine spirit and credit goes to both sides for
their entertaining play and fine football. Town Green's Man of
the Match was Theo Christokou. |
Southport A 5 Birkdale C 0
Any cup competition has the David and Goliath ties and Southport
needed to be up for this tie as Birkdale had nothing to loose.
Oliver Cunningham the SFCJ captain had his team on their toes from
the off to avoid any early slip ups and straight from the kick off a
move down the right saw a great cross from Owen Drummond which found
Robson Baldwin on the far post to hammer home his 1st goal of the
season. This steadied the nerves of the home team and Birkdale
defended stoutly but could not contain SFCJ who scored in quick
succession with goals from Owen Drummond and James Smith.
Anthony Brown and Sam
Johnson and Jack Bainbridge all had chances to get on the score
sheet but some great saves by the Birkdale keeper denied them their
rewards. Southport played some fantastic football throughout the
match and it was James Smith, Owen Drummond and Robson Baldwin who
shared the goals that put Southport into the draw for the next
round. Birkdale never stopped competing and deserved more than they
got out of this game but unfortunately they met a team that wants to
win this cup and look a good bet of going all the way in this cup
competition.

Town Green 9 Burscough 0
This was a top versus bottom clash with the final score never in
dispute. Burscough came and battled hard, showed a fine attitude in
never giving up the fight but ultimately lost to a team that was
just too good. Rob Welsh opened the scoring after 2 minutes with a
typical strikers tap in. Adam Townson added another 2 minutes later
and the game was all but over. Burscough struggled to keep up with
the fast, 2 touch football, that Town Green displayed, and by half
time the game was well and truly over.
In the 2nd half a
major shuffle by Town Green gave Burscough the chance to play some
football and to their credit they gave it a go. They held Town Green
for 15 minutes before Rob Welsh popped in his 2nd. This seemed to
wake up Town Green who turned up the heat and continued to score at
will. Town Green Scorers were David Taylor, Adam Townson, Rob Welsh,
Harry Loftus, Conor McLean, David Wilkinson and James Halpin.

Redgate Y 1 Ainsdale A 3
The conditions not helping either team the game started at a
blistering pace. There was a lot at stake for both teams neither was
prepared to give an inch. As the game began to take shape Ainsdale
began to press forward, taking the lead through Luke Smiths chipped
goal. This seemed to stir from Redgate into life and they finished
off a fine passing move with the equaliser from Josh Giblin. Just
before half time Ainsdale again took the lead through a rasping low
shot from Joe Clarke 2 1 half time.
The 2nd half started
with Ainsdale attacking and bossed the majority of the half adding a
3rd goal through Luke Smith finishing off a fine day for Ainsdale
and putting them in the semi-final. A great game with both teams
playing their part and making it enjoyable for all concerned.
Under 13 - Liverpool FA Tesco Cup
Mossley Hill 2 West Tower (Craven Minor League) 3
West Tower progressed through to the 2nd round of the Tesco Cup,
with a great victory against a very strong Mossley Hill. The game
was played at Jericho Lane, just off Otterspool Promenade, and with
near gale force winds coming in off the river, it was never going to
be a day for attractive football, and was clearly going to be a game
of 2 halves. With the advantage of the wind in the 1st half, it
looked as though West Tower would need to take a commanding lead
into half time.
At 1st, everything
went to plan, as Bradley Sherwood scored early on, and West Tower
had a lot of shots either just wide, or saved by the goalkeeper,
before against the run of play Mossley Hill equalised. Fortunately
for West Tower, a fantastic header from John Haig within seconds of
the restart restored West Towers lead, but even so, the half time
score was a less than convincing looking 2-1.
Straight from the
kick off Mossley Hill took the game to West Tower, and most of the
game was now in the West Tower half, but thanks to some tactical
changes at the back, and some solid defending, they never really
troubled goal keeper Conner Monaghan. It always looked as if their
best chance of scoring would come from a freekick or corner, and so
it proved. A succession of corners were whipped in, very difficult
to defend against in the swirling gale, but all were headed clear,
until at last one reached the head of a Mossley Hill player, who did
enough to send the ball past the goalkeeper and into the net, to
make the score 2-2.
Getting out of their
own half was now a real problem for West Tower, and for long periods
it really was backs to the wall, but as the game neared conclusion,
and extra time loomed, West Tower started to master the wind and
their flowing football to feet, began to return. A couple of near
misses seemed to have let Mossley Hill of the hook, but then with
seconds left on the clock, Bradley Sherwood found himself unmarked
in the box, and he made no mistake, hammering the ball into the
bottom right corner. |
