Right Said Fred at Ship & Anchor

OK, you have all heard the song, “Right Said Fred", well that was the feeling as a delivery was made of two amazing classic arcade machines, to the Ship and Anchor in Cable Street in Southport. After a fantastic start over Christmas 2006, when Southport Reporter got Retro Arcade Machines Ltd. to install a Retro Arcade Machine which proved to be a huge hit with punters, it lead onto a plea from bar staff and punters for more... So not to disappoint, Retro Arcade Machines delivered not one, but two classic collectable Arcade Machines... "House of the Dead" and "Star Wars".... The Star Wars machine went in fine, but despite measuring correctly and many attempts to push the "House Of The Dead" into the bar, it was not going to go in. The door was the correct size, but sadly, the angle and the fact the rain had made the steps in slippery, meant they could not get it in without some structural alterations. The first thing that came to mind was, “can we strip the machine.?.”. After a few minutes of looking at it, it was a no... Still it would not fit and they had got nowhere, so next was "Can we remove the windows?" That was, "No". Not to be put off, a cup off tea came to mind... so then it was "Can we lift it over the roof and push it in via the back door?" After yet another a cup of tea, and lots of thinking, the reply was "Eerrr nope..." So then it was, "Well, we have to take the doors off!" So out came the screwdrivers and off came the doors... Still it would not fit because of the angle. By this time most would have given up, but no, the Bar staff pleaded to let them try again. So out came the fire axe and then a mallet, chisels and hammers... Off came the door frame! Yes... Success! Now you can play the games and as one punter said, "This is fantastic.... you can not get these games like this in any other small venue... Brill... Fantastic games and a fantastic atmosphere... what more could you ask?" Only time will tell if the efforts made by the staff will prevail, but so far the three games have been a massive hit and will no doubt be a huge hit for a long time to come!

As the bar staff after the eventful installation said:-

"See... we knew it would fit!!!"
