Win
a mortgage or rent-free 2007
GET 2007 off
to a flying start by winning a mortgage- or rent-free year, while
helping homeless and badly housed children at the same time.
Online payment company Paypal has joined forces with housing and
homelessness charity Shelter to offer customers the chance to win
the once-in-a-lifetime prize of having their mortgage or rent paid
for an entire year.
From now until 4 February, Paypal customers who donate to Shelter by
texting 'Shelter' to 64483 and confirming their donation via PIN
will automatically be entered into the prize draw. The
competition aims to raise at least £10,000 to support Shelter's
vital work with homeless and badly housed families and children.
Today more than 1 million children in Britain are homeless or living
in bad housing, with devastating effects on their health, education
and future chances.
Adam Sampson, chief executive of Shelter said:- "It's shocking
that, in the 21st century, 1 in 7 children wake up homeless or in
bad housing every day. Just 1 text could pay your mortgage or
rent for an entire year and help give these children the chance of a
brighter future."
Roy Vella, Head of Mobile Payments at Paypal, said:- "This
draw is a great way for donors to support the more than 1 million
children in Britain who are homeless or badly housed. PayPal
Mobile is simple and secure and participants can give as often and
as much as they like with each donation being a separate entry in
the draw. I can't imagine a better way to support Shelter given the
potential upside of a mortgage- or rent-free 2007. Now that would be
a Happy New Year!"

Fans needed for football memorabilia plan
PEOPLE are
being urged to get involved in plans to house a comprehensive
archive charting the history of Everton Football Club in Liverpool.
The city council's Record Office is working with the Everton
Collection Charitable Trust to bid for money from the Heritage
Lottery Fund to help buy the 10,000 items in the Everton Collection
from current owner, Dr David France.
The fascinating archive, which includes items from Everton’s
inception in 1878 to the present day, includes more than 6,000
programmes, player contracts, the first League Championship medal
and even the tender to build Anfield - home to Everton before
Liverpool FC were formed. There are also medals presented to
players including Dixie Dean; season tickets; photographs; handbooks
and financial statements. It has been described as the most
comprehensive collection of football memorabilia in the world.
More than £350,000 of the £800,000 needed to purchase the collection
has been raised thanks to donations from Everton FC and Lord
Grantchester. The bulk of the remainder will come from the Heritage
Lottery Fund - providing the bid is successful.
A team of consultants working on the scheme want to meet with local
people interested in the collection to help them develop ideas for
the collection.
David Stoker, Liverpool Record Office Manager, said:- “We are
at a crucial stage of putting together the bid for money from the
Heritage Lottery Fund, and we need input from local people to
demonstrate that there is a wide appeal for this collection.
It is an amazing insight into the history of football in Liverpool
and the Football League – so will be of interest not just to Everton
FC fans but also to anyone with an interest in sport and history.”
Council leader Warren Bradley said:- “This collection is
absolutely fascinating and if the bid is successful it will mean the
archive is accessible to everyone in Everton’s home city.” |
