Get into the routine of saving lives

THE National Blood Service is asking people across the North West to help them top blood stocks up after the summer break.  During the summer month’s stocks can dip by as much as 10%, it is important that they are built back up again during September so that they are ready for the colder months ahead when stocks can again dip.

Cathy Davies Communications Officer for the North West said;- “With the school holidays over, people are starting to return to their old routines. We would like to ask people to add saving lives to their ‘to do’ list by becoming a blood donor.”

Donors can give every 16 weeks and as each donation can potentially save 3 lives by giving an hour of their time 3 times a year each donor could help save or improve the lives of as many as 9 patients in local hospitals.

Cathy added;- “Why not call our helpline today and make an appointment to come along to your local session because you never know when it could be someone you know that needs a blood transfusion.”

Anyone aged between 17 and 59, weighing more than 50 kg (7 stone 12 lbs) and in general good health could potentially start saving lives by becoming a blood donor. For details of sessions in your area or to book an appointment call 08457 711 711 or visit www.blood.co.uk

British Red Cross Seek Lancashire Loop Cyclists

THE British Red Cross is looking for cyclists to join its cycling team for the Lancashire Loop Cycle Challenge on Sunday 30 September 2007 and to help raise funds for the charity.  Cyclists can choose either a 45 mile or 100 mile route starting and finishing at Cockerham Village Hall. To enter costs just £10 and we are challenging our cyclists to raise a minimum of £75 or more in sponsorship.

All monies raised will go to support the services provided by the Red Cross both at home and abroad.

Senior Fundraiser, Jo Allott said:- "This Lancashire bike ride is a fantastic event, which takes in some of most the breathtaking views of the Lancashire Countryside. It a real challenge but a real achievement for cyclists to complete and all whilst raising money for charity too!"

Entries for the event close on the 17 September 2007 and places are limited so don't miss out!

If you have what it takes for this challenge and would like to raise some sponsorship money for the British Red Cross too, for more information please contact Jo Allott on 0161 888 8915 or email.
