SOUTHPORT RAISES £££’s FOR RED CROSS

COLLECTIONS in Tesco, Southport for Red Cross raised a staggering £996.79!!  Volunteers and staff were out in force during the fundraising drive at Tesco at Kew collecting on behalf of the British Red Cross on Friday 28 September 2007 to Saturday  29 September 2007.

Quote from Alexis Fairclough local senior fundraiser said:- “We are delighted that people in Southport have come forward to support the Red Cross collection.

An amazing £1000 was raised through our collection and it is a testament to the generosity of the people of Southport.

All money raised will go towards helping the Red Cross to care for vulnerable people in crisis, in Sefton as well as around the UK and overseas.

It was a fantastic collection across the whole of Merseyside. Southport’s collection was one of the best we have ever done, raising nearly £1000 to help us to keep providing vital services in the local community.

I must say a big thank you to Councillor Hands for coming to lend his support, and to Doug Cottrell and members from Southport Rotary who helped collect all day on Friday.

Special thanks to the volunteers and staff who collected all day and with the money raised, we will be able to be there when crisis occurs in this neighbourhood.

For more information on British Red Cross please visit our website www.redcross.org.uk.  Thanks to all the customers at Tesco for their generous donations.”

During the weekend of 28 Friday 2007 and Saturday 29 September 2007, The British Red Cross Volunteers and Staff were out in force collecting from the public to help people in crisis in the community. TESCO stores across the region opened their doors even wider!! which allowed collectors from British Red Cross shake their buckets and tins!!

A visit at Southport store by Mayor of Sefton Councillor Richard Hands was most appreciated. Mr Mayor took time out his busy schedule on Saturday morning to come along and meet the volunteers, who were there all day, and to offer words of encouragement and support for Red Cross.

The Ultimate Tribute (working title) is holding auditions!

PRESENTED by Graham Norton, The Ultimate Tribute (working title) is a brand new talent show that will leave viewers amazed… and wondering if seeing is believing.

We’re looking for the Uk’s best singers who think they could be a tribute act as well as professional tribute acts who think they’re the best. Performers don’t have to just sing like a superstar, they have to look like them, dress like them, and act like them. In fact they have to live, breathe and actually turn themselves into the superstar of their dreams. The tribute acts we are looking for are Elton John, Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra, Robbie Williams, Rod Stewart, Freddie Mercury, Tom Jones, Cliff Richard, Lionel Richie, Madonna, Whitney Houston, Cher, Diana Ross, Tina Turner, Kylie Minogue, Mariah Carey, Britney Spears, and Dusty Springfield.

Auditions will be held in:-

London, Friday 2 and Saturday 3 November 2007

Birmingham, Monday 5 November 2007

Manchester, Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 November 2007

Newcastle, Thursday 8 November 2007

Edinburgh, Saturday 10 November 2007

Each week, our tribute artists will be put through their paces as they try to capture the performing essence of an established superstar. They’ll be given performance tips by a host of top professionals, from vocal coaches to choreographers, make-up artists to costume makers.  And it all leads up to weekly live shows on BBC ONE, in front of a studio audience of friends and their icons’ Superfans, to win those all-important viewers’ votes. Who can combine their looks, voice and acting talents into a complete package that suspends the audience’s disbelief and perform as a star? Who will the nation choose as their greatest superstar double?

For the winner there’s a once in a lifetime opportunity - a three month performing contract in Las Vegas with the renowned "Legends in Concert", one of the longest-running celebrity impersonator shows in the world.

To have the chance to be uniquely showcased on national television please go to www.bbc.co.uk/ultimatetribute where you can download an application form, or else you can call 09011 27 27 27, and an application form will be posted out to you. The deadline is midnight Thursday 1st November 2007.
