Craven Minor JFL Match Reports For 14 October 2007

Under 14 - Hesketh Colts 0 Skem Rangers 9

SOME excellent football by Rangers produced numerous chances and 9 of them were put away. The scoreline could have been more but an in form Keeper kept the score down. Hesketh did not let the score deter them and kept going, their best chances being in the first half which produced some good shots at goal. By half time the score was 5 - 0 to Rangers with Paul Bennett getting a hat-trick, Jordan Addison heading in from a corner and Callum Owen scoring his first for Rangers.

In the second half Rangers kept up the pressure and another 4 goals followed to put Rangers through to the next round. A corner ball found Jamie Machell's run and he headed home to start the second half scoring followed by goals from James Edgar, Ben Maddocks and Peter Wylie.
Man of the Match : Danny Hastings.

Under 11 - Redgate Yellow 0 Southport FC Juniors 2

SOUTHPORT returned to league action after last weeks victory at Town Green in the cup. Redgate who have had a great start to the season and are unbeaten this term came up against a strong Southport side that have conceded very few goals so a tight game was on the cards.Southport have been slow starters to games this season and this game was no exception as Redgate created the early chances, from one chance the Redgate striker broke free and was about to shoot from the edge of the 6 yard box when SFCJ defender Rob Handsford somehow got a foot to the ball to deflect the ball wide of its target and deny Redgate the lead. Southport struggled to put any sort of pass together and it was Tom Rodgers and Anthony Brown in the centre of midfield to try and stem the pressure. Rogers who has been an inspiration for Southport this term twisted and turned to break the Redgate defence, with Brown growing in stature it was not long before Southport took charge of the game and imposed some pressure on the Redgate defence. Towards the end of the half a Southport attack was stopped by a Redgate defender who's clearance fell to Robson Baldwin 25 yards out who hit a thunderbolt of a shot that flew into the net despite the brave efforts of the keeper to keep it out. This was Baldwin's first goal of the season and just rewards for one of the leagues most outstanding defenders.

The second half was just as tight but Southport always had the edge in strength with Oliver Cunningham in commanding form at the back for Southport. The game became stretched and Southport too advantage and penned Regdate back Owen Drummond James Smith and Sam Johnson all had chances to extend their lead but were denied by some great defending by Redgate. Arron Ken and Jorge Jones came off the bench to make an immediate impact on the game, a move on the right saw Smith beat two defenders to slide the ball across the 6 yard box to find Jones to hammer home his shot. Redgate never gave up but could not pierce the Southport defence which has been the foundation of their success this season but when teams have Callum Jones in goal has come to their rescue with some great saves. Southport and Redgate played out the final stages of the game cancelling each other out as both teams had given all they had on a wet and difficult pitch, the players showing respect for one another's efforts. In the end only one team could win but make no mistake Redgate were more than a match and will give other teams in the league a tough game, unfortunately today Southport passed that test and were worthy winners with Tom Rogers putting in his normal Man of the match Performance.

Birkdale United J 9 Ainsdale B 0

BIRKDALE United J, the Renacres Hospital sponsored team, put Ainsdale B under pressure from the start, with a number of corner kicks in succession with one leading to the ball coming out to Platts who vollied it into the back of the net giving Birkdale Utd. J an early lead. Birkdale's passing was clinical and an example was defender Bolton's pass through to Hargreaves whose shot was just wide of the post. Frew and Aindow were also passing the ball up the field feeding it through to the strikers with great aplomb and Aindow himself scored his first goal of the game. Birkdale J were awarded a free kick, taken by Williams forcing a rebound from the Ainsdale Keeper which was followed up by Platts and converted into the 2nd goal for Birkdale J. Shortly before half time Platts scored his hat trick. Half time score 4-0 to Birkdate Utd. J.

The second half saw Birkdale Utd. J carry on were they left off, pressing forward at every opportunity, and when Ainsdale did manage to get into the Birkdale half they were dealt with efficiently by Howard, ably assisted in the 2nd half by Copson and Gaskell. Hargreaves went on to score two further goals for Birkdale and when a beautifully free kick taken by Aindow went into the back of the net, Birkdale were ahead by 7 goals. Frew then put his name on the scoresheet and then Birkdale J were awarded a penalty kick which was admirably saved by the Ainsdale Keeper who unfortunately got injured and had to be substituted. Birkdale were then awarded a further free kick, again taken by Williams and converted into a goal by Aindow who was rewarded with his hat trick.

A good game for Birkdale Utd. J, particularly good to see the midfielders Burrows and Young putting in good solid performances and the strikers taking their goals well.

Under 10 - Formby JSCB 0 Southport Trinity 3

FORMBY JSCB’s three match unbeaten run came to an abrupt end at Deansgate Lane against a strong looking Southport Trinity 'B' side. Formby JSCB looked unusually disjointed for long periods of the game and struggled to take control of the midfield area like they have been doing in recent matches and this was to prove their downfall. Formby JSCB goalkeeper and man of the match was called into action as early as the first minute, pulling off a fine save down to his left from Southport's number 21. As Formby JSCB began to settle a little, Harry Mills drilled a low shot straight at the visiting keeper and when Rhoss De Andrade found Sam Carragher in space he could only stab a shot wide from a tight angle. Max Robinson was in the wars early on when he took a shot straight in the crown jewels, you could hear the 'ooooh's from all the male supporters! Southport then pressed and their number 21 volleyed just wide and then number 14 broke free but his shot was wide of the mark to the relief of Formby JSCB manager Ian Robinson. His relief was short lived though as Matthew Lloyd tackled strongly but the referee awarded a free kick. Southport's number 14 curled the ball goalwards and it drifted over Shaun Jackson-Guy's head and into the far corner of the net to put Southport 0-1 up after 12 minutes. Southport's number 21 almost made it 0-2 but his delicate chip drifted over the bar. Rhoss De Andrade then came close to leveling things up for Formby JSCB when he received a good throw-in from Sam Carragher before turning the defender well and driving a shot inches wide. Harry Mills, last weeks hat-rick hero then found Rhoss De Andrade inside the penalty area but the ball just wouldn't sit up for him and Southport cleared their lines. Max Robinson was covering well from midfield but he was being pushed back far too deep when we needed him breaking forward from midfield and creating chances like he normally does. Matthew Lloyd then blocked a goalward bound effort and then defensive partner Adam Cullen did likewise seconds later as Formby JSCB struggled to clear their lines. Ben Hitchmough did well just before the break when he shot wide but he was surrounded by three Southport defenders making it almost impossible to hit the target. Rhoss De Andrade then fired a shot straight at the keeper as Formby JSCB searched for the equaliser. At the other end Southport hit the post and as the ball bobbled agonizingly around the penalty area Adam Cullen did well to act fastest and hoof the ball clear. Shaun Jackson-Guy then kept Formby JSCB in the game with a fine fingertip save from Southport's number 14, throwing himself away to his right.

At the start of the second half Formby JSCB looked hungrier than they had in the first and lone striker Rhoss De Andrade hooked a shot over from a tight angle. Matthew Lloyd and Sam Carragher linked superbly out on the right wing before finding Harry Mills who drilled a shot just wide. Southport's number 20 defended superbly to keep Rhoss De Andrade quite and snub out the chances for Formby JSCB. At the other end Shaun Jackson-Guy was called into action again with a brave save at the feet of Southport's number 21. From the resulting corner though Formby JSCB didn't get their heads onto the ball and it fell to Southport's number 14 who sliced the ball past the keeper and into the net to make it 0-2 to the utter disgust from home manager Ian Robinson. Adam Cullen then had a clearance turned shot from his own half, the ball finding it's way through to Southport's keeper. Harry Mills then found Rhoss De Andrade on the edge of the area, he did a few tricks to beat the defender but fired wide of the mark. Then Southport's number 14 showed that he had tricks as his own before forcing another great save out of Shaun Jackson-Guy in the Formby JSCB goal. Matthew Lloyd then made one his rare forays forward and did well to win the ball before finding Ben Hitchmough but Southport's defence was growing in confidence and they snubbed out the danger. Shaun Jackson-Guy then made a fantastic fingertip save from Southport's number 14 again !!! It was end to end by now as Formby JSCB threw Harry Mills up-front with Rhoss De Andrade and it almost paid off when Matthew Lloyd found Harry Mills in space, he found Rhoss De Andrade but he shot wide of the goal but Formby JSCB were creating chances. Shaun Jackson-Guy was at it again in the Formby JSCB goal when he save bravely to deny Southport's number 14 yet again. Formby JSCB looked to have resorted to the long ball which is not the way they play at all but it almost paid dividends when a long goal kick from Shaun Jackson-Guy was not cleared by Southport but Rhoss De Andrade couldn't bring the ball under control. Then Matthew Lloyd almost cost me £50 when he pushed forward again and fired a fine shot just wide of the left hand post. Matthew is STILL waiting for his first goal for the club ! Matthew Lloyd then found Harry Mills in space but Harry failed to hit the target. Shaun Jackson-Guy was then called into the action again when he made a superb double save before Max Robinson cleared the danger. Then right at the death a defensive error let in Southport's number 19 who coolly lifted the ball past the advancing keeper to seal a well deserved win for the visitors. Formby JSCB's Man of the match and rightly so went to goalkeeper Shaun Jackson-Guy who made a string of fine saves to keep the score line down to just 0-3. Matthew Lloyd and Adam Cullen were solid at the back but the there was just no supply to Rhoss De Andrade who became continually frustrated as he was being marked by two defenders for most of the match. Take nothing away from Southport Trinity 'B' as they wanted this victory more than our boys and our only hope now is that this result will put the frighteners up Town Green Spartak and Redgate Yellow in the coming weeks ahead.

Under 9 - Southport Trinity B 1 Jaguars Red 3

A Top of the table clash between two sides who have met previously in a close contest, started with neither side really pushing themselves. Everything was very even until the deadlock was broken by a route one pass from Jags Goalie Byron Houtris which bounced through to Tyler Rimmer who poked it through the advancing keeper’s legs.

Jags relaxed and started playing their usual passing game. This paid dividends with Kai Wilson crossing from the left to Tyler Rimmer who struck with his left foot to take a 2-0 lead in at half time.

Trinity came out the stronger in the second half and pressurized the Jags but with Kallum Graham and Sadek Hajaig solid at the back Jags repelled their challenge. Jags managed to break and forced Trinity into an error, the ball was handled in the box and Jags were awarded a penalty.

Tyler Rimmer stepped up and placed the ball perfectly in the top corner for his hat-trick.

Trinity’s late consolation was scored from a corner but too late to spur a fightback. Nevertheless this was an excellent game of football played in good spirit throughout by both teams who deserve every credit.

Ormskirk West End 6 Redgate Black 0

OWE started attacking straight from the whistle and within minutes the first goal was scored by Jordan Seddon. This seemed to calm the nerves and from then on Seddon was on a roll! Over the next ten minutes or so, Seddon had bedded another 2 goals. OWE's passing paid off and what can only be described as a "beautiful" pass from Mathew Carrigan, to Seddon, sealed the deal, by making it four in the first half.

The second half saw the Redgate that bit stronger and OWE’s midfield and defence, had to work hard to keep them at bay.

Jordan Seddon was still on the attack and he blasted the ball only for the goal keeper to save it, but it rebounded and Saul Dale slotted it home.

As the game carried on all the boys worked hard, M Carrigan and J Stanley both looked...  ....continued...

....continued...  ...as if they were going to score but they just couldn’t get it in the back of the net!

Some lovely passing today, from OWE and just to finalize the game, S Dale buried the sixth and final goal of the game. Although Redgate's goal keeper was the busier, our goalie, still denied them the chance to score when they tried.

I have to say, that although we won 6-0, this was a good game of footy and Redgate never gave up, excellent spirit!!!

Well done to all the boys!
