Paving Works Extended

A SCHEME which has seen major improvement to the paving of city centre streets is to be extended.  Work is set to start on repaving the footways on the Queen Square side of Old Haymarket and Whitechapel to its junction with Sir Thomas Street with the same standard of high quality materials used in other parts of Whitechapel.

Originally it was intended that only the parts of Whitechapel between the junction of Church Street/Lord Street and Sir Thomas Street would be upgraded.  However, additional funds have been provided by the European Regional Development Fund with contributions for Neptune Developments and Merseytravel to enable the £350,000 scheme to go ahead.

Work will start in the area outside Dr Duncan’s pub on October 29 and will continue until December when it will be suspended to enable access to the Queen Square Car Park during the Christmas shopping period. It will resume in January and be completed by the end of March.

This scheme is part of the City Centre Movement Strategy, a £73 million project by partners Liverpool City Council, Merseytravel, and Liverpool Vision to improve the roads and public areas of Liverpool.

Cllr Mike Storey, Executive Member for Regeneration, said:- “The work on the public realm which has been undertaken for CCMS has dramatically improved much of our city centre and we are now able to extend this beyond what we originally planned. We will schedule the work to avoid disruption over the Christmas period and it will be complete early in the New Year.”

Magnum coming to 53 Degrees Competition

2007 has seen Classic Rock band Magnum back in the UK Album Charts with their excellent Princess Alice and the Broken Arrowalbum.  Now the band prepare to follow this by performing their classic album Wings of Heaven Live in its entirety for a forthcoming Live Album to be recorded on the following UK Tour to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of this album with a date at 53 Degrees on Monday 12 November 2007.

Wings of Heaven
was a Top 5 album in 1988 and contained 3 Top 40 singles which saw the band appear regularly on Top of the Pops.  These shows will be a set of 2 halves with the band performing the Wings of Heavenset alongside other Magnum classics and songs from the current Princess Alicealbum so book tickets early to avoid disappointment.
