Letters To Editor:- "The Brickwall Inn Bonfire Event 2007"

"ON 5 November 2007, we held what we thought was going to be a small bonfire event to raise money for charity.

We anticipated around 200 people maximum. We then started to have a lot of phone calls to the pub on the day. Which made the licensee very concerned. Michelle Inman took it upon herself to contact the local police regarding the volumes of people now expected. The event got underway at 6pm and by 6.30pm we had about 2500 people at our premises which you can imagine caused a lot of traffic congestion.

Two police officers came into the Brickwall Inn to speak to Michelle Inman and suggested she instructed radio city to announce any cars being parked on the road will get a ticket if they are not moved immediately. The officers also instructed the music being played outside should be turned off!   Michelle Inman ad eared to every instruction by the officers.

The Lazer show company turned up to the venue and was advised by the police they would be in breach of the law should they enter the premises. The Lazer Company did not and went away. This caused a lot of frustration to all the public as they was waiting to see this show and had come from miles around to see. After this The Brickwall Inn was getting bad comments and upset customers as there children had nothing to see or stay for.

We held this event as a charity event for local people. Not only that we also made it a safer event for people by having NO fireworks and we did not light a bonfire due to health and safety reasons. This would have been the safest place for people should the lazer show of been allowed into the venue. Now The Brickwall is suffering the loss of custom due to the general public thinking it was down to the Brickwall Inn for not having anything for the children.

We feel at this stage all we can do is apologize to all concerned and as part of our past success and customer service we would like to invite all that turned up to our event a taste of our finest carvery every sunday on a buy one get one half price basis."
Paul, The Brickwall Inn.

Note from Editor:- "We have contacted Merseyside Police for a report as to what went wrong.  We have also asked what could be done to help handle this type of unexpected amount of people should it ever happen again, with out having to let people down.   Sadly as of yet we have not had a reply, but we will run it as soon as we get one, though."

The Brickwall Inn Bonfire Event 2007

The Brickwall Inn Bonfire Event 2007

ON the 5 November 2007 the Brickwall Inn at Netherley Road, Tarbock held a 'No Bangs Bonfire Event'.  Sadly not all the event went to plan, due to unexpected safety issues on the night.   The event still ran though and lots of cash was raised via a bungee jump that was erected on the pubs car park.

We would like to say well done to the staff of the pub for coping with very trying and unusual problems on the night.
