Match Reports

Under 10
Formby 0 Redgate 1

Formby JSCB gave one of their bravest performances of the season against a strong looking Redgate Yellow side at Deansgate Lane on Sunday but they just didn't get the rub of the green in a very close encounter.

The Formby JSCB boys can take a lot away from this performance which saw them reduce second placed Redgate Yellow to just a handful of efforts in the entire match. After 5 minutes Formby JSCB almost broke the deadlock when Rhoss De Andrade turned the Redgate defence before his looping shot beat the keeper but landed on the upright before the keeper flapped the ball from danger. Rhoss De Andrade then received a good ball from Ben Hitchmough and his whipped in cross was excellently headed clear by the Redgate defence as Formby JSCB began putting the visitors under pressure.

Max Robinson was still battling well in midfield and it was through his tackling that Formby JSCB almost took the lead. Max Robinson lost the ball in midfield but slid in to win it back before finding Rhoss De Andrade whose shot was well saved by the Redgate keeper.

Formby JSCB then won a free kick after Max Robinson was brought down. Patrick Travers took the free kick and Rhoss tried to flick it on and the ball drifted over the keeper and onto the top of crossbar and out for a goal kick. Then the visitors got a rather undeserved lead when they broke through their number 2. It was three against one at the back and despite some desperate blocking attempts from Matthew Lloyd and Adam Cullen the number 2 touched it past Shaun Jackson-Guy onto the post and into the back of the net.

Still the action flowed in an excellent first half as Redgate broke with some good passing and their number 2 was through on goal only for Shaun Jackson-Guy to come off his line and dive bravely at the feet of the striker. At the start of the Second period Joe Sudlow found Max Robinson down the left had side, he turned and found Patrick Travers just outside the penalty area. Patrick kept his cool and got the ball under control well before firing a shot just wide of the far post.

Formby JSCB were battling very well but they just couldn't get the clear chance on goal which they craved. From a corner Harry Mills swung it in high, the Redgate defence thought that they had cleared the ball but it fell to Adam Cullen and his blistering shot was saved by the keeper but he couldn't hold it and it went out for another Formby JSCB corner.

Redgate Yellow almost finished Formby JSCB off when their number 17 beat the defenders’ lunges then found the Redgate number 5 who was clean through. Shaun Jackson-Guy was quick off his line and did superbly to get his fingertips to the ball at the expense of a corner.

Then came Formby JSCB's best chance of the game with just minutes remaining. Rhoss De Andrade controlled well and turned the Redgate Yellow number 5 with some silky skills before finding Max Robinson who in turn found Patrick Travers but his first time effort drifted inches wide of the Redgate goal. Patrick Travers then whipped in a great corner which the Redgate Yellow keeper could only manage to tip out for another corner but time was not on Formby JSCB's side as the corner was cleared by Redgate Yellow and the final whistle blew. Man of the match went to Matthew Lloyd after a sterling performance in the first half despite having 9 teeth out last week.

Redgate Green 0 Town Green 6

Town Green proved, beyond any shadow of a doubt, why they are currently riding high in this league.

Straight from the opening whistle, a lightning run down the wing by the terrier-esque Callum Birchall resulted in a stunning opening goal for the impressive Jack McGregor. Almost immediately after this great opener, the majestic Connor Stockwell slotted a second goal past the Redgate keeper to make the half time score 2-0.

The second half followed pretty much the same pattern with further Town Green goals coming from Kieron Turner, Callum Birchall, Rian Eades and Connor Tierney.

Town Green played like a well oiled machine; with precision, accuracy, pace and strength. They really took a hold of this game and a fantastic team performance got them the result they deserved.

Redgate did not give up without a fight. They defended well and had many shots at goal but when Anthony Caunce is on top form, there aren't many that get past him. He pulled off some tremendous saves, but particularly making a fantastic last minute save with his legs to keep a clean sheet. His defenders served him well today, notably the unflappable and determined JJ McNicholas, the brick wall that is Danny Pugh, the mighty Rian Eades and fiery Theo Chrisokhu. When Jake Beesley and Jonathan Campbell came on as subs they had exactly the same impact and defended within an inch of their lives. Josh Donson made a big impression on the game in midfield, got some perfectly timed passes through to his attackers and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet himself.

Particular credit should be given to the Redgate keeper who played his socks off and pulled some fantastic saves out of the bag. He was inspirational to his team mates and kept them in contention in the first half. Again, this team deserve to be placed higher in the league and have some outstanding players. They are definitely a force to be reckoned with.

Despite some rather bizarre and inconsistent refereeing decisions, this game flowed well and was played like a cup final. Every player on the pitch gave 110% and provided the spectators with some beautiful, clever and exciting football which made you forget the winter elements raging around you.

Town Green's Man of the Match was Callum Birchall. Right from the opening whistle he never stopped running and caused Redgate no end of problems on the wing through his speed and accuracy. He was a pleasure to watch and thoroughly deserved the accolade. Well done Callum.

Hesketh Colts Red 1 Birkdale United J 5

Hesketh Colts started the game with some vigour forcing the Renacres Hospital sponsored team, Birkdale Utd. J back in their own half and with them gaining four corner kicks in succession, it looked like a tough game for Birkdale. But Birkdale J settled into a rhythmn and got their passing game going and went one up with a goal from Liam Jackson after 5 minutes of play. Three minutes later Liam Aindow got the second for Birkdale J, at this point the confidence of the team grew and they played some good football.

The second half saw Birkdale J build on their confidence, Luke Williams took a great corner kick which nearly lead to Rawsthorne getting on the scoresheet and at this point Birkdale J were in control of the game and Dom Platts scored the third for Birkdale J who were not finished in terms of goals, Liam Jackson scored his second giving Birkdale J a 4-0 lead. However, Colts did win a couple of free kicks, the first one saved by Dan Griffiths, but he only managed to get his fingertips to the second one and Colts got their only goal of the game. Towards the end of the game Jack Young was rewarded for his diligent play with a fine goal resulting in a 5-1 victory for Birkdale.

It was a very good team performance from Birkdale J who took their chances well and defended any attack with aplomb.
