Former Mayor and Mayoress Jailed

A former Mayor and Mayoress of Sefton have been jailed for benefit fraud on Monday 3 December 2007 after a seven week long court case. The jury who returned a majority guilty verdict on both charges against the Walkers, learned how John and Catie Walker, had plundering almost £37,000 in benefits.

The former Mayor, John Waker, 57, was handed by Liverpool Crown Court a 15 month jail term for conspiracy to defraud £32,871 in Disability Living Allowance. He was also given six months, running concurrently, for conspiracy to defraud £4,000 in Income Support.

Judge Brian Lewis who handed the cupple their sentence said that John and Catie Walker had shown a "disgraceful breach of trust" adding that they had "shown no remorse".

RUNNERS once again turned the streets of Liverpool into a carpet of red and white the as participants donned the famous white beard and red outfit in an effort to retain their own world record. Yes it was the official Santa Dash 2007 in Liverpool City Centre took to the streets on Sunday 3 December 2007. The aim was to get this years in the The Guinness Book of Records and keep Liverpool as the home of the planet’s biggest Santa Dash. This year Las Vegas was reported to have had it's eyes on the record that was made by Liverpool in 2005 with over 3,921 runners taking part. This year Liverpool did it again with over 6,000 runners in the main race allow. The Mini Dash had over 1,000 taking part, despite early morning rain and a biting strong wind. The event was aimed at rising cash for charities and from what we could see, they must have raised thousands of pounds, Well done to all who took part and if you want to find out about what's next for the race why not visit the official Santa Dash website, at:- www.santa-dash.com.

PS. Father Christmas, the reel one was in the race and we would like to know if any of the children spotted him.
