Remember, Reflect, React…
LIVERPOOL is
hosting the National Holocaust Memorial Day on 27 January 2008 at
the Philharmonic Hall as part of the Capital of Culture programme.
The city will be hosting the event in conjunction with the National
Holocaust Memorial Day Trust.
The theme of this
year’s campaign is imagine… remember, reflect, react, urging us to
think about those who were persecuted by the Nazis and in other more
recent genocides.
Liverpool is organising a series of events to commemorate victims of
genocide. The programme includes the thought-provoking RESPECTacles
project, photographic exhibitions, arts, music, literature, theatre
and performance. The Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Councillor
Paul Clark said:- “Liverpool has a very diverse programme
which is important as this helps us to remember the victims of the
Holocaust and other persecutions by the Nazis, as well as more
recent genocides like Rwanda and Darfur. We as a city can play
our part by maintaining awareness, reflecting on dark periods in
history and never forgetting the suffering of innocent people at the
hands of persecutors.”
The events culminate with a huge ceremony at Philharmonic Hall which
will bring thousands of people from all over the country together in
a spirit of unity and friendship.
