‘LES ROSS’S DAY TRIPPER – SATURDAY 1 MARCH 2008

A very special train, as it is the first one to be hauled by privately owned Class 86 electric number 86259 (originally E3137) since restoration to main line running order following withdrawal by Virgin West Coast.

Now in its original electric blue livery which it wore when built in 1966, the locomotive is owned by BBC West Midlands presenter Les Ross, who actually named the locomotive at Birmingham International station 2002. The locomotive was a regular visitor to Liverpool Lime Street from 1966 until displaced by more modern electric trains.  The ‘60’s’ feel to the train is completed by Class 47 diesel 47773 in two tone green livery (originally D1755 and subsequently named ‘The Queen Mother’) being attached to the rear of the train.

As the entire train has to be turned after arrival at Liverpool to allow 86259 to haul the train back to Birmingham, we are offering railway enthusiasts in the North West a chance to travel behind both locomotives on The Turning Movement

Fares are just £25 standard class and £39 1st class (table for 2 an additional £15).

47773 : Liverpool (depart 11.44) - Newton-le-Willows – Golborne Jn- Wigan – Preston.
86259 : Preston – Warrington – Crewe
47773 : Crewe – Weaver Jn – Liverpool (arrive 14.59)

Seats are individually reserved.

Brass band required for hit musical

HELLO, Dolly!, the biggest show stopping musical of all time, is searching for a brass band to appear in the show during its run at The Lowry in Salford.  Starring Anita Dobson and Darren Day with a West End company of over 40, including live orchestra, this spectacular production will be at The Lowry from Tue 4 March for one week only.

Hello, Dolly! is packed full of memorable songs and scenes and the lucky band will feature in the parade scene at the end of Act I. The band will be required to play while walking through the auditorium, helping to recreate the excitement and atmosphere of a genuine New York parade.

The chosen brass band will be needed to appear at all performances, including matinees, during the show’s stay at the theatre. The band will be supplied with the music several weeks prior to the show in order to practise and must be available for rehearsal at the theatre before the show opens to the general public.  If you are a member of a local brass band and would like the opportunity to appear in this sensational show, please email by Friday 29 February 2008.

Hello, Dolly!, features a star studded West End cast including Anita Dobson as the irresistible Dolly Levi, Darren Day as loveable Cornelius Hackl, David McAlister as the ‘unmarried half-a-millionaire’ Horace Vandergelder and Louise English as sophisticated hat shop owner Mrs Irene Molloy. Winner of 10 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Hello, Dolly! is full of memorable songs including Put On Your Sunday Clothes, Ribbons Down My Back, Before the Parade Passes By, Hello, Dolly!, It Only Takes a Moment and So Long, Dearie.
