Under 11 – Trisconi Cup Semi Final
Southport FC Juniors 9 Hesketh Colts Red 1

Cup fever hit Southport FCJ and Hesketh Colts Red with the prize for the winners a date in the final in April. Southport started the brighter and forced numerous chances in the early stages but some great defending by Tim Moore and Dominic Callahan kept Southport at bay. It was a matter of time before the deadlock was broken and a corner from Sam Johnson found SFCJ Captain Oliver Cunningham to rifle a left foot shot high into the net, this was well deserved and Jorge Jones and a Sam Johnson penalty extended SFCJ's lead. Hesketh Colts made a game of it and with a bit of luck they could have netted themselves but Callum Jones the SFCJ keeper produced some fine saves. Anthony Brown and Tom Rogers were outstanding in midfield for Southport and with Robson Baldwin and Dan Thompson equally outstanding on the left flank Hesketh Colts did well to keep them out before the interval.

Southport started the second half in top gear and the goals came in quick succession with James Smith, Mat Peterson, Owen Drummond and Ryan Pytel all netting to put the game beyond Hesketh Colts. Southport kept the ball and some sleek passing throughout the side produced some fantastic football but credit to Hesketh Colts they kept going and got the reward their efforts deserved when Tom Howard latched on to a ball and ran from the halfway line to slide the ball wide of Callum Jones and into the net. Southport hit back straight away when Dan Thompson produced his trade mark goal when he rattled a long range left foot shot into the net. Robbie Handsford and Will Wilson both had near misses towards the end of the game but were denied by some great saves by the Hesketh Colts keeper. The man of the match award goes to Oliver Cunningham who lead his team by example and was a dominant force throughout the game and scoring twice.

Skem Rangers 9 Ormskirk WE 0

Skem Rangers dominated this game from start to finish.

An early goal from Paul Bennett was quickly followed up by a Jordan Maloney overhead kick.

Soon after Mike Forsyth hit a blast from outside the box to make it three.

Not to be outdone Josh Seddon then hit a high ball from half way into the roof of the net. Just before half time Tom Barlow hit his first to bring the half time score to 5-0.

In the second period Dale Slater got on the scoring sheet along with Tom Barlow who completed his hat trick, one a header the other a squared ball from James Edgar for Tom to hit in. The last and final goal came from a corner, which fell to Peter Wylie to knock in and finish the match.

Man of the Match:- Mike Forsyth.

Under 11
Town Green 2 Redgate Green 2

Once again, losing the advantage of a home fixture because of continuing problems with Town Green's home pitches, Town Green played Redgate Green at Redgate's home ground.

Town Green started the better of the two sides, having most of the possession. Indeed, Anthony Caunce, the Town Green keeper had little to do for the first 20 minutes or so with most of the play taking place in the Redgate goalmouth.

Town Green had chance after chance but some excellent defending and goalkeeping by Redgate kept TG at bay and TG could not penetrate the barrier of yellow shirts before them.

Some brilliant runs from Callum Birchall down the wing and Connor Tierney through the centre created many problems for Redgate, but they stood strong and denied TG opportunity after opportunity.

A break by Redgate saw their number 17, Dan, score a perfectly timed goal but Redgate's lead was shortlived when George Newell responded almost immediately to bring the scoreline back to 1-1.

The second half saw virtually equal possession and a real battle ensued in midfield. Kieron Turner and Josh Donson worked hard to get the ball forward but TG again squandered many opportunities. Eventually, it was Newell again who scored to give TG a 2-1 lead.

Both sides pressed and battled for possession and every player on the pitch gave 100%.

An equaliser for Redgate came in the form of a penalty, which was coolly scored by number 17, Dan, and Dan was unlucky not to score his hattrick when a perfectly taken shot ricocheted off the post.

It is hard to believe that Redgate Green are not placed higher in this league. Their defence was superb and TG found it hard to find a way through at times. Both sides should be commended for their perseverance, commitment and effort and a draw was, perhaps, a fair result on the day.

Town Green's Man of the Match was Kieron Turner. He covered every inch of the pitch, exhibited pace and skill and played some fantastic balls through to his attackers. His tackles were all timed to perfection and he played with spirit and determination.

Birkdale United J 7 Hesketh Colts Red 2

Birkdale United J met Hesketh Colts Red for the third time this season. The game started steadily, both sides sizing each other up. An initial chance for Dom Platts of Birkdale went wide, but 10 minutes into the game he scored the first of the match, putting Birkdale J in the lead.

The next 10 minutes saw Hesketh Colts become more commanding and pressuring Birkdale J back into their own half but Luke Williams created a chance for himself and scored a lovely goal giving Birkdale J a two goal lead at half time.

The second half saw more pressure from Birkdale, Dom Platts ran into space and scored himself a magnificent 2nd goal. Hesketh Colts saw a chance to get on the scoresheet just go wide of the post, and then Liam Jackson of Birkdale scored a 4th for the side.

Hesketh Colts continued to play in a determined manner and put pressure, in particular, on defenders Sam Howard and Scott Bolton, but Dom Platts had other ideas and got himself a hat trick with another well taken goal. He went on to score his fourth goal and the final goal for Birkdale came from defender Jack Young. The determination of Hesketh Colts was admirable and they were rewarded with two late goals.

Hesketh Colts 0 Rainford Rangers 3

Rainford Rangers travelled to Meols Park for this re-arranged fixture. Rainford started the brighter of the two sides with Jake Arkell probing the Colts defence with some powerful runs. On 7 minutes the early pressure paid off when great interplay between the Rangers midfield trio of Kieran Case, Sean Marsh and George Reid released Jake Arkell who turned neatly in the Colts area and fired home past the keeper.

Scott Stoneley and Callum Deeming were breaking down the Colts attacks and sending some excellent through balls to the Mid field and attack. The Colts keeper was outstanding in keeping the Rainford Ranger attacks at bay.

Jake Arkell doubled his tally on 12 minutes when George Reid threaded a superb pass inside to Sean Marsh whose shot was blocked only for Jake Arkell to volley home the rebound. Colts then had a good period of possession asking questions of the Rainford defence. Ryan Jones was equal to the speculative efforts from out side the area and his long clearances were turning the Colts defence around.

Kieran Case was dominant in the tackle and Sean Marsh was precise in his passing but it was George Reid who caused the majority of the problems for the Colts defence.

Danny Glover came on at half time to assume his customary position in defence and Morgan Benson took up the strikers role. Hesketh were keen to stay in the contest and pushed hard to pull a goal back but this in turn left huge gaps for Rainford to exploit.

It was left to Ryan Jones to settle the tie when his fierce drive from the edge of the penalty box nestled into the right hand side of the Colts goals. It was no more than Ryan Jones deserved as his intelligent play had created several chances for his team mates.

Jaguars White 1 Tarleton 3

Whites started really well and forced a couple of half chances in the first few minutes. The passing was good and Tarleton struggled to create many breaks. When they did Kyle and Zayn kept everything at bay and Cameron picked up anything loose. Just before half time Whites again missed chances and looking at the first half it was hard to see how they could lose.

A goal within 3 mins of the restart by Ben Shenton, controlling and blasting into the net from outside the box gave the Whites the lead. This seemed to give Tarleton the wake up call they needed and they grew stronger, equalising a few minutes later and then within 2 minutes taking the lead after the Whites failed to close the ball down outside the area.  The Whites again missed chances to equalise and in the final seconds Tarleton broke again and the ball was dispatched into the bottom corner as the defenders backed off.

Deepdale 4 Southport FC Juniors 0

Deepdale started the brighter of the two teams forcing A. Thorpe into a great early save, it wasn't long before the Juniors found their form with some nice passing between L. Harwood, C. Harper and M. Howard, the ball was crossed to C. Rimmer to make it 1-0.

After a period of pressure by the Juniors L.Harwood finished very well to make 2-0 then shortly after he knocked in another superb goal.

The second half started with the Juniors applying a lot of pressure adding a further goal when M. Howard's beautiful chip over the keeper stole the show after a great through ball delivered by J McCormack.
