Porn Spam shoots up on instant message services...

WE have been getting a flood of
reports over the last week about MSM, Skype and other message
services being targeted by a/or a group of Porn Spam/s. We have had
countless messages sent to us via Skype with very pornographic
material on. The reason why I have picked up on this is that it
raises the issue about children getting access to message services
and how easy it is to become targeted by spammers, who do not check
the ages or who they are sending information to.
Skype Customer Support asked us to pass this message on to our
readers:- "Skype takes privacy seriously and for that reason
we have built-in privacy settings that can restrict who is allowed
to contact you.
In Skype, go to Tools > Options > Privacy and select which privacy
setting you wish to have.
You can also block users you no longer wish to have contacting you
from your contact list. You can do that by right clicking on the
name you wish to block.
Also ensure that you click the "Quit" or "Leave" button in unwanted
chats to ensure that you cannot be added back to that same chat.
The privacy settings do not let people who are not in your contact
list send you chat messages or call you via Skype, but you can still
receive share contact invitations.
This is done on purpose to give friends who you don't have in your
contact list the chance to let you know that they want to share
their contact details with you.
For other users that you do not know, please simply decline the
sharing invitation and if you wish, you can block this user from
contacting you again.
If you have an username of a spammer, please let us know and if
possible please also include a screenshot of the spam so that we can
proceed to take actions against this user.
About the faulty report system:- Could you provide us with a link to
it?
We thank you in
advance for any information you can provide us."
This is the very first time we have ever had a problem on Skype and
I am very please to see them taking it seriously.
If anyone wants to know how to protect their children and themselves
on the internet, we have a set of free advice books to
give away. The booklets are called:- "Keep Your Child Safe on
The Internet" and issued by the Home Office.
To get a copy, call
in to our offices, at 4a, Post Office Ave. Southport, and pick up a
copy.

Rare chance to go “Under and Over the Mersey”

MERSEYSIDERS
are being given a unique opportunity to go under and over the River
Mersey on Sunday 15 June 2008 (Father’s Day).
Merseytravel is organising the historic walkthrough event, called:-
‘Under and Over the Mersey’, in celebration of
Liverpool’s year as European Capital of Culture.
Those talking part will be able to walk through a closed Queensway
(Birkenhead) Tunnel from Liverpool to Birkenhead and enjoy a trip on
board the world’s most famous ferry service, 'The Mersey
Ferries'.
The last walkthrough of the Mersey Tunnels was held in 1994 and
attracted some 25,000 people.
When the Queensway was opened in 1934, 80,000 people took part in a
celebratory walkthrough.
The day will include a packed entertainment programme, with special
performances from the Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, and a
vintage car rally.
Gospel artists from across the world and street performers from
Liverpool Lighthouse will provide the colour and carnival
atmosphere.
Merseytravel is an official partner of European Capital of Culture
2008.
Councillor Ken McGlashan, Chair of the organisation’s Mersey Tunnels
Board, said:- “The River Mersey is at the heart of this whole
region and the tunnels and ferries are both important links across
the water.
We want to
bring the people of Wirral, Liverpool, Merseyside and beyond
together for what will be a unique event.”
Neil Scales, Chief Executive and Director General of Merseytravel,
added:- “As official partners we are fully committed to
European Capital of Culture.
This will be a
fantastic event that will bring people and families across the
region together in a day of celebration.
We want this to
be one of the great events taking place throughout 2008 that people
remember for many years.”
The event, which will be held between 11am and 4pm, will cost £5 per
person or £15 for a family of up to two adults and two children.
Children under five will go free.
Everyone taking part will receive a specially cast commemorative
medal and free travel on the Mersey Ferries to and from the event.
The 2.23mile Queensway Tunnel was opened in 1934 and is the longest
tunnelled estuarial road crossing in the UK. It carries over 11
million vehicles a year.
