Knowsley Youth FC play ball in the USA!
Written by Dave Mercer, Knowsley Council

Match report:- Knowsley Vs. Manhattan Soccer Club.

Team:- Nicolson, Taylor (Thompson, 72), Gardner (Wardle, 72), Williams, O'Hara, Johnson, Wheeler (Dillon, 59), Connors (Shaw, 59), Edwards (Jackson, 72), Bennett (Ryder 63), Jenkins (Davies, 32)

AFTER enduring a long delayed fight from Manchester to JF Kennedy Airport, via Atlanta, the Knowsley Squad finally arrived in New York, tired but excited about what was about to unfold.

The squad were treated by their host families to a 2 hour ferry ride taking in the best that New York has to offer, and afterwards, shopping in the Big Apple.

Preparation started with a mixed training session for the Knowsley and Manhattan players, with both Head Coaches swapping teams.

After a good night's sleep, Knowsley started its preparation for the 2008 Dallas Cup with a game against the Manhattan Soccer Club on Randal’s Island New York.

A cautious start by Knowsley for the first ten minutes created a patient approach by the players retaining possession and moving the ball well, with little response from the Manhattan boys. After gaining in confidence, Knowsley began to create chances but failed to capitalise after being awarded a penalty, putting the spot kick wide.

Knowsley then began to take control and in the 34th minute Anthony Hickey opened the scoring but in the 40th minute, due to some slack defending by the Knowsley defence, Manhattan was allowed to equalise.

Knowsley began to play patient, controlled football and took the lead again in the 42nd minute with another strike from Anthony Hickey. Knowsley then settled and began to play good football, creating many chances to score before the break without success.

Half Time:- Manhattan Soccer Club 1 to 2 Knowsley Youth

In the second half, after several substitutions, Knowsley set the pace and scored their 3rd goal in the 55th minute, by Dominic Price but then in the 67th minute, a collision between the Knowsley keeper and defender created an opportunity for Manhattan to score a second goal. After the restart Knowsley again started to take control off the game and created some flowing moves from back to front, resulting in goals in the 75th & 80th minutes from Jeff Thomas and a stupendous free kick from Michael Garside secured a fine start to the campaign with a 6 to 2 victory which capped a fine performance by Knowsley in their first game.

Later that evening Knowsley, and the Manhattan players shared an evening of food and friendship before Knowsley departed the next day for Georgetown, Texas [Austin].

Match report:- Knowsley Vs. St Edwards University Soccer Club.

Team:- Wheeler, Bingham, Davies, Sweeney, O’Conner, Forshaw, Garside, Wright, Thomas, Smith, Hickey,

A much stronger and older St Edwards team proved a much needed test for the Knowsley squad which the boys stood up to and played a patient, passing build up with many chances being created for the Knowsley forwards, due to a spectacular performance from the opposing keeper, which materialised into a single goal from Thomas Sweeny, which was a well worked free kick, derived from excellent assistance from Dale Wright, to nestle in the top corner of the goal. Clever play from Michael Forshaw finding gaps within the opposing mid field created problems for them and allowed for some excellent spectating. Unfortunately Knowsley failed to capitalise on this hard work, which resulted the half time score being 1 to 0.

Half Time:- St Edwards College 0 to 1 Knowsley Youth

A tactical substitution by St Edwards saw a new centre forward begin to create problems for the Knowsley defenders resulting in some fine saves from Kevin Woods in the Knowsley goal. Knowsley then created further chances, in particular Antony Hickey gained a break away one on one, which was defended well and resulted in a quick counter attack, which forced play up the pitch. Some poor refereeing failed to pick up the off side position, which resulted in a fine equalising goal from the centre forward for St Edwards. This raised the game and resulted in St Edwards taking control with great defending and excellent forward runs. The intense 90 degree heat began to take its toll on the younger Knowsley squad, which resulted in the players visibly tiring and unable to deliver their usual high standard. St Edwards took full advantage and pressed forward which resulted in a second goal in the last 10 minutes. Having worked really hard in all three games the players felt the effects of the extreme temperatures. This resulted in a victory for the St Edwards College and the first defeat, which masked the hard work and dedication of the squad.

Liverpool Fashion Show Gets Businesses Hot under the Collar

LIVERPOOL based PR group, Entourage PR, on Thursday 7 February 2008, got local business all hot under the collar, at a stunning event held in aid of the Field Of Women Campaign for the Linda McCartney Centre.

The event was held in the sumptuous night club called, Club H, which is owned by none other that Natasha Hamilton, and located on Victoria Street, Liverpool.   The event mixed both business and fashion, for what was to be a very novel networking event.

The event started with many female models strolling around in their bikinis, designer bags, all made by local based, designer bag leasing company www.bagmybad.co.uk. If that did not get the temperature climbing, the models were then accessorised with stunningly glamorous sunglasses, from the summer design selection of Silverberg's Opticians and the highest heels from Kate Kuba... But that was only the first half of the show..!

The second half was handed over to local designer label, Coconut Ally, who dressed the female models in some extremely classy evening dresses and the men were dressed in jeans provided by Levi's and T-shirts again by Coconut Alley.

After the show, the party started in the lower section of the club and allowed local business people, celebrities, models and designers to mix and talk business.

This was the first of quite a few events planned by Entourage PR for 2008, dubbed by them as the '08 Capital of Chic' programme!
