New website for safety conscious motorcyclists

ONE of the UK’s most prominent road safety initiatives, dedicated to motorcyclists, has re-launched its website to offer even more information, advice and features.

Lancashire based RideSafe BackSafe is keen to increase its reach across Greater Manchester and the North West; even though the site - ridesafebacksafe.co.uk - was already attracting nearly 150,000 hits per month and had more than 5,000 forum members before the re-vamp.

Created as an online community 'by bikers, for bikers', the website will now feature advice about protective clothing, rider assessments, training options and quick tips for safer road riding. Anyone thinking about getting their first moped or scooter can visit the dedicated Young Rider pages for information about taking the CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) and developing their skills. The site will also provide contacts for bike clubs in the North West, information about regional events, regular competitions and special offers. A new feature will put the spotlight on the RideSafe BackSafe Ambassadors, such as John McGuinness and Maria Costello, as well as interviews with other celebrities from the motorcycling world.

Bikers will also be able to ‘meet’ each other on the forum, post their own images on the gallery and ask questions of the RideSafe BackSafe team.

MERSEYSIDERS CAN SIGN UP FOR SERIOUSLY GOOD FUN SKYDIVING FOR RNID

RNID is calling on fans of the new Batman movie in Merseyside to spread their bat wings and register for the charity’s thrill-filled skydiving programme.

The national charity, which represents the UK’s nine million deaf and hard of hearing people, is inviting budding caped crusaders inspired by The Dark Knight movie to sign up for tandem skydiving at an airfield in Cockerham, Lancashire. You’ll be safely strapped to your instructor for the jump, allowing you to enjoy the breath-taking views.

By signing up for RNID’s skydiving programme, which is free to fundraisers who raise a minimum of £390, people can experience the adrenaline-boosting feat of falling through the sky from approximately 10,000 feet.

As places are limited and will be awarded on a first come, first served basis, anyone who wants to take part should register their interest as soon as possible. Parental consent is required for 16 and 17 year olds who wish to sign up.

Caroline Jupe, RNID Events & Community Fundraising Manager, says:- “Sign up now for an exhilarating RNID skydive – you’d be batty to miss out on the chance to fly through the air like your favourite superhero!”

Money raised will help pay for projects and services that improve the everyday lives of deaf and hard of hearing people.

For more information about RNID’s skydiving events, contact Caroline Jupe, on telephone / textphone:- 0845 634 0687 (local rate) or email:- events@rnid.org.uk.

Merseyside’s 1st DVD rental kiosk launches in Formby

FUTURISTIC DVD vending kiosks are set for a rapid growth across the UK in 2008, and a 'Movie Booth' kiosk launched this week in Spar, Formby is offering a free night’s DVD rental to every new user

This week the people of Formby will be amongst the first in the country to be able to benefit from a robotically operated DVD vending concept which offers users touch-screen access to a range of new release movies, and as part of the launch every person using the kiosk for the 1st time can claim a free DVD rental from the machine at Spar, Green Lane. In addition to the advanced technology on show from the kiosk, a touch of glamour will be added to the occasion with Britain’s Next Top Model contestant Charlotte Denton working for The Movie Booth during its initial launch to get local people renting DVDs from the kiosk.

The Movie Booth is a new brand which supplies DVD kiosks to retail stores throughout the UK and enables users to rent movies on a pay-as-you-go basis from a fully automated machine, offering a modern alternative to the traditional high street DVD rental store. The futuristic concept has been launched on Merseyside by John Youssef, who noticed the gap in the DVD rental market in Formby and found DVD rental kiosks as a solution that could offer a convenient and cost-effective way for people to rent their favourite new release movies.

Mr Youssef commented:- “The kiosk is so simple to use, once people try it, I think it will be as normal to them as using a cash machine.  All the latest releases will be in the machine, and they will be updated every Monday.

To get people used to using the machine, we will be offering the first nights rental to all new customers for free”.

In an ever changing market, retail outlets across the UK will soon feature the automated DVD kiosk in order to be able to offer a convenient DVD rental service to their local customers. DVD kiosks have experienced a massive growth in the USA with over 9000 kiosks in operation with ease-of-use, convenience and cost being provided as the main reasons for the kiosks success.

To encourage the people of Formby to use the kiosk for the first time, The Movie Booth at The Green Lane Spar is offering customers their 1st nights rental for free.  To take advantage of this offer customers simply need to visit the kiosk and rent a movie to receive the first 24 hours of the rental completely free.
