New York Band Plays Live In Southport

NEW York band 'Spokinn Movement' visited Liverpool and Southport on a UK tour on the night of Saturday, 1 November 2008.   Well in Southport the very early ours of Sunday morning to be pedantic... Running late after performing in Liverpool, the band rushed into Southport and turned up 15 minuets behind time.   So it gave us a bit more time to catch up with them.  We eventually court up with this fantastic for piece band at 2:15am on Sunday morning, as they rushed into Drakes, Southport... By 2:30am the band had sound checked and started to play to a small, but very lively audience. By 3:00am the band's lively hip-hop and rap brought in more and more people... Even though the venue might be small and the time of night/morning did not put off the audience that kept growing, but even more surprising was this did not put them off either... They quickly made friends around the room, as they played their highly energetic performance involving audience participation with their lively, witty and easy to follow lyrics.   This performance just seemed to pass very quickly as you found yourself quickly drawn in and suddenly it was 4:00am..! It is a shame that they where on so late, but you could not tell that these lads had just been performing in Liverpool and where suffering from jetlag.  I expect to be seeing these lades, again very soon, at events like the Southport Weekender. Their extensive roots in improvised jazz, classical jazz, rhythm and blues have made them produce a clear crisp and original sound that will go down well in the UK's main stream markets, as well as the underground markets. We will be reviewing the brand's album called:- "60 Min. Spin Cycle" next week... but from what we could see of these lads, their CD will find it very hard to get across their live musical talent and performance, that they had demonstrate in this live show. Their website says:- "You'll never see the same Spokinn Movement performance twice." and I can see that would be the case.  Unlike most bands of late, these lads think on their feet! They make up coherent and flowing melodies and they lyrics to go along with it, as they go along... Personally I was highly impressed by both the venue and the band.  This was a truly exceptionally good night! Drakes did extremely well to get these lads and we hope they will re-visit again... I cannot wait now to see what other gems this new venue will put on...
