Match Reports Week Ending 25 January 2009 Under 12 With 2nd placed Birkdale looking to narrow the gap on Formby B
today’s game carried extra importance. Birkdale United N 9-0 Hesketh Colts Blue Birkdale made a bright start to this game, dominating possession
right from the kick off.  The 1st goal came after only 2
minutes, scored by Liam Jackson.  After 8 minutes, Max Regan
ran down the left wing and his perfectly flighted cross was met by
the head of Liam Jackson and flew over the Hesketh keeper.
Birkdale continued to dominate the bulk of possession but didn’t add
to their lead until a minute before half time when Liam Jackson
completed his hat trick. The 2nd half started
in very much the same way as the 1st half had finished, with
Birkdale making all of the running.  The 4th goal came after 6
minutes with a cross from Greg Rawsthorne, slipped into the net by
Liam Jackson.  4 minutes later, the 5th goal came from a cross
by Brodie Pike, knocked into the net by Luke Williams.  After
16 minutes, Liam Jackson picked up the ball on the edge of the
penalty area and rounded the keeper to slot the ball in for his 5th
goal of the afternoon.  Hesketh Colts only real chance of the
game came after about 20 minutes when an under hit back pass left
Nick Knight stranded but as he closed down the angle, the Hesketh
Colts striker lifted the ball against the crossbar and James Frew
cleared the rebound.  Almost immediately Birkdale took the ball
down to the other end and a Liam Jackson shot was deflected into the
path of Max Regan who tapped the ball into the net.  But Liam
Jackson was not going to be denied a 2nd hat trick and grabbed his
6th goal of the game after 24 minutes.  The final goal of the
game was scored by Liam Jackson after 27 minutes.  Birkdale did
have the ball in the net one more time but Max Regan was adjudged to
be offside.   A good all round
performance by Birkdale with a number of players showing a good
level of work rate and commitment. The score could have been even
more if all of the chances that were created had been converted.
Joint Man of the Match this week were Liam Jackson for his seven
goals and Max Regan for a strong performance on the left wing
putting in some great crosses. Under 10 Nothing separated Town Green and Ormskirk Rangers prior to today’s
games and with leaders Redgate Yellow only 2 points ahead,
everything was to play for. Town Green 3-1 Ormskirk Rangers This local derby began with Rangers settling the better.
Rangers midfield moved the ball so quickly with Will Jones, James
Kaye and Tom Bigland linking up well with Aidan Darcy upfront.
Shots from James Kaye and Aidan Darcy forced Town Green's goalie
into some fine saves.  Tom Bigland showed blistering pace down
the wing and got his rewards after he pounced on a goalmouth
scramble to give Rangers the lead.  Josh Ackers and Jamie
Barnes kept Town Green's chances to a minimum until the last seconds
of the half when against the run of play Town Green's centre forward
coolly slotted the ball past the onrushing stand in keeper Alex
			Wong.   The timing of the
goal was to shape the 2nd half, Town Green got a massive lift and
began to push Rangers back. With both teams title ambitions at stake
a draw was no good to either team and both teams went for the
winner. It made for an end to end 2nd half with Town Green taking
the lead.  Rangers created a number of chances one of these was
a tremendous shot from James Kaye that crashed against the Town
Green crossbar and over.  This was as good as it got for
Rangers despite some goalmouth scrambles. Town Green killed the game
off with the last kick of the game. 3-1 was especially
tough on stand in keeper Alex Wong who sacrificed himself for the
good of the team. The whole team were awarded man of the match for
not letting heads drop and showing a great attitude and desire.
On the 2nd half display Town Green just about edged it but Rangers
will look forward to the 2nd instalment when they meet again in the
			cup next week. |
