FANDABIDOZI

'D'OH!' is the nation's favourite children's television catchphrase, according to a poll of adults.  Homer Simpson's classic curse, written as 'annoying grunt' in the show's script, was first used in a short episode on the Tracey Ullman show in 1989.  It soon became his trademark and is occasionally by other characters Bart, Lisa and Grampa.  'Doh!' was even added into The New Oxford Dictionary of English in 1998 with the definition 'used to comment on an action perceived as foolish or stupid' - and was added to the Oxford English Dictionary in 2001.

The poll of 7,431 TV fans, conducted by TheBabyWebsite.com, placed Fred Flintstone's 'Yabba Dabba Doo!' in 2nd.

3rd place went to the Dalek's famous catchphrase 'Exterminate!' from legendary BBC sci-fi show Doctor Who.

Nigel Crawford, spokesman for TheBabyWebsite said:- "It’s surprising how many of the catchphrases have really stood the test of time.  Some of the more popular sayings when I was at school are still in the list today.  I’m sure Homer’s ‘D’oh’ will be in the list for many many years to come too.”

Fred's Flintstone's catchphrase, which was originally derived from the Brylcreem advertising jingle motto "A Little Dab'll Do Ya!", was heard regularly during the 6 years The Flintstones series was aired in the 60's.  The Dalek's aggressive electronic screech is recognised by children and adults alike.

Captain Kirk's "Beam me up, Scotty!" in Star Trek was 4th. The command is spoken by Captain Kirk when he needs his transporter chief Scotty to transport him back to the ship.  The Chuckle Brothers - Paul and Barry - for saying "To me, to you" - was 5th. The slapstick comedy ChuckleVision usually involves the brothers undertaking a task or adventure, which then goes wrong.  The brothers have a number of other catchphrases including "Course it is, silly me" - "Silly you" and "Oh dear" followed by "Oh dear, oh dear".

He-Man's "By the power of Grayskull!" takes 6th place in the poll.  The A Team has 2 catchphrases in the top 10 - Hannibal's "I love it when a plan comes together" comes 7th whilst Mr T's "I pity the fool!" comes 9th.

"Fandabidozi" by the Krankies, and "What's up Doc?" by Bugs Bunny completes the top 10.

POLICE LAUNCH COMPETITION TO FIND THE NEXT DAVID BECKHAM

THIS week sees the launch of a European Competition (UK, France, Italy and Switzerland) by the De Rigo Group to find the new face of the 2010 advertising campaign.  Follow in the footsteps of George Clooney, Bruce Willis and Antonio Banderas by sending a photo of yourself to the website police-beyounique.com and stating why you are unique enough to win, you will have an opportunity of being the next David Beckham.  David H Myers has been chosen as one of the key retailers participating. By visiting the store on London Street, Southport, you can submit your competition entry for a chance to become the next face of Police.   Every 2 weeks, users of the site will vote to select 10 people, until a total of 60 finalists have been chosen from the most interesting faces in the site’s photo gallery. The final casting session, which will be conducted by POLICE and the creative agency, will be carried out in September 2009; the winner will then automatically take part in the shoot for the new Be YOUnique 2010 campaign images, which will take place in the Autumn. A UK finalist is guaranteed.  Other prizes for the participants include a holiday for the person who has invited the most friends to sign up for the competition, a holiday awarded from a prize draw using the codes printed on the postcards distributed at the sales points, and finally a prize draw holiday for a salesperson involved in the campaign.  The major Are YOUnique competition represents an important step in the creation of a global POLICE community that is more united, with more brand loyalty, than ever before.
