Take a trip to the flicks to a whole new dimension - 3D Arrives at Vue SOUTHPORT

FILM-lovers in Southport should prepare for a sensory overload as the revolutionary 3D experience arrives at Vue Southport, from 1 July 2009, for the 1st time.

Vue Entertainment is daring film-lovers to escape the everyday and enjoy a new and astonishing cinematic experience that will see images virtually leap off the Vue screen, in glorious three dimension.

What’s more, it’s out with the old red and green cardboard specs and in with new funky and comfortable black-rimmed shades (which wouldn’t look out of place in Men in Black), as 3D comes of age. And, with millions of pounds invested in the latest 3D projectors nationwide, comfortable stadium seating and an exhilarating atmosphere, experiencing the excitement of 3D at Vue, is just the ticket.

This summer, those in search of a family blockbuster with a difference shouldn’t miss Ice Age 3, from 1 July. Audiences will be grabbing at falling snowflakes and ducking dinosaurs as they become totally immersed in the 3D action. Add to this, the comedy adventure G-Force from 31 July and more 3D extravaganzas this autumn including; Pixar’s hotly anticipated Up, the latest Final Destination and James Cameron’s long awaited and highly anticipated Avatar – and it’s set to be an extraordinary year at Vue.

Leigh Loudon, General Manager at Vue Southport says;-”Everyone who has seen 3D has been blown away by it! We’re really excited about bringing the experience to cinema-goers in Southport. 3D magnifies all the magic and excitement of the big screen as the film literally comes alive in front of your eyes – an unforgettable experience that cannot be replicated at home!”

Every patient who needed clot busting treatment received it within target time

FOR someone suffering a heart attack the speed with which they can get access to a particular drug known as thrombolytic treatment can literally be a matter of life and death. Southport & Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust is one of only three Trusts in the country who were able to give this treatment to every patient who needed it within the target time of 30 minutes after arriving at hospital.

A heart attack is caused by a blood clot blocking one of the coronary arteries or its branches & the clot busting drug (a thrombolytic) dissolves the clot re-establishing the blood flow to the heart muscle. The sooner the clot is dissolved the less damage there is to the heart muscle.

Figures released by the Royal College of Physicians last week in their annual report on heart attacks show that the Trust is 17% above the national average of 83% for patients to receive the drug within 30 minutes of arriving at hospital. The report also gives figures for patients receiving the drug with an hour of calling for help and again the Trust is above average with 89% against the average of 72%.

Sarah Groves, Matron for Critical Care said:- "This result has been achieved by the hard work of all staff particularly those in Accident and Emergency & the Clinical Decision unit who have a consistently high level of training & support from our Cardiac Specialist Nurses. To be one of only three Trusts to have achieved a 100% record is very satisfying, but the real challenge is maintaining it."
