BOMB SCARE!
Article & Photos by Patrick Trollope.

Merseyside Police can confirm that a bomb scare outside the library on Lord Street, Southport at 11am on Tuesday, 20th August was a hoax.

"Despite the dangers, I was shocked to see that people did not respond the way I though they would.  At the time the thret was very real. Most people stood around and it was more like a group of people waiting for a pop band then a suspected bomb!  Some people even ignored the dangers completely and walked through the cornered off road and one person asked a policeman "I just want to take my book in as it will be over due and I will get a fine tomorrow if I don't get it in today. Can I get through?"    I have to say that the police and other emergency services did a very good job and deserve praise.  So to do the staff at the Library." One worker in the building told us.

I would have to agree with him.  The other people who deserve praise are the bomb disposal group who had to go in to a situation that could have been life threatening.

It is any ones guess why people call in hoaxes.  It costs alot of money and loses alot of resources each time a hoax is called.  It can also can easily result in loss of life, as the emergency services are on standby at the scene and some one might need them.   NEVER EVER MAKE HOAX CALLS!
