WITNESS APPEAL - ARMED ROBBERIES, KIRKDALE

MERSEYSIDE Police are appealing for witnesses following an armed robbery at the Supa Shop on Stanley Road, Kirkdale on Friday, 16 July 2010. The incident happened just after 6.45pm when two men, who had their faces concealed, entered the shop and stole a quantity of cash and cigarettes. One of the men was armed with what is believed to be a machete-type knife. No-one was injured in the incident but staff members were left shaken. They left the scene on foot heading in the direction of Briar Street. One of the men is described as wearing mostly black clothing with a dark green and grey deep striped hood while the other is described as wearing a green jacket with yellow stripes. Officers are also investigating two other incidents that took place over the weekend involving similar features as the armed robbery at the Supa Shop. At around 4.50pm on Saturday, 17 July 2010, two masked men, one of whom was armed with what is believed to have been either a long knife or a machete, entered Bread and Wine on Breeze Hill. They left the scene empty-handed and were seen getting into a waiting small black car on Olney Street. The second incident took place at around 7am at J&R Butterfield on Breck Road on Sunday, 18 July 2010, when three masked men entered the shop. One of the men was armed with what is believed to have been a machete and threatened the shopkeeper to hand over a quantity of cash and cigarettes. They then left the scene in the direction of Rydal Street. House to house enquiries have been carried out and CCTV is being examined. DI Eddie Cowan said:- "We are appealing to anyone who may have seen two or three men acting suspiciously near to these premises around these times to contact us with any information they may have. In particular, we are keen to speak to passengers on an Arriva bus that drove past the Supa Shop and saw two men matching the above description standing at the bus stop at 6.48pm, just prior to this offence taking place. We will not tolerate this kind of crime on Merseyside and urge anyone who may know these men, or may have any information, to call us so we can put them before the courts and bring them to justice." Anyone with any information is asked to call the Robbery Investigation Team on:- 0151 777 4811 or 4809, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on:- 0800 555 111.
