Unusual items that hotel guests leave behind

A bagful of money, a pair of stilts and a false leg - Park Plaza Hotels and Resorts reveal some of the more unusual items that guests leave behind

A bagful of money, a pair of 1.4 metre long stilts and a false leg are among the more unusual items that guests have left behind, according to research revealed by Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts.

The research also showed what guests most commonly leave behind; of all the items that end up in lost property, razors make up 21.1%, books 14% and nightwear 12.3%, which might raise a few awkward questions at home.

Also revealed in the study is the answer to that age old question of where all the odd socks end up - and it’s got nothing to do with the laundry. 52.6% of the items left behind at hotels are single socks.

“With guests from around the world walking through our doors every year, there’s not much that can surprise my staff or me, although finding the stilts was new to all of us.”
comments Simon Mahon, General Manager of Park Plaza County Hall.

Park Plaza Hotels and Resorts’ lost property policy is to keep items for three months before donating them to charity. Unsurprisingly, the lost bag of money was very quickly reclaimed.

Convicted Tracy Dawber

CONVICTED, Tracy Dawber, from Southport, has been convicted of sexually assaulting a 5 month old baby girl in what has become one of the most sickening child pornography cases in the UK to date. The 44 year old becoming the final member of a paedophile ring to face justice. Winchester Crown Court heard that Tracy Dawber carried out the assault on a sofa, as her boyfriend photographed the abuse. Her now ex-boyfriend Colin Blanchard, 40, of Rochdale, previously admitted being involved in the assault. Blanchard, an IT consultant, admitted 17 counts of child pornography and two of sexual assault on children. He also admitted possessing extreme pornography, the sexual assault of a baby and taking indecent images of that baby. On 18 October 2010, after the decision to convict, the Crown Prosecution Service lawyer, Ann Reddrop, who dealt with all the cases, said:- "Colin Blanchard turned out to be an evil man who controlled four women in one of the most sickening paedophile rings this country has seen. He encouraged these women to take and share ever more horrific images of the sexual abuse of children. As if that was not bad enough, he encouraged them to physically abuse children to produce those pictures. In the case of Vanessa George, this led to a hideous betrayal of trust of those parents who relied on her to look after their children at the nursery where she worked. She showed a complete disregard for the lives of the victims and their families, all of whom have been left devastated by these crimes. Anyone who was in court to hear details of these cases cannot fail to be horrified at why three women - Vanessa George, Angela Allen and Tracy Lyons - committed such shocking acts of child abuse when prompted by Colin Blanchard or why Tracy Dawber encouraged such activity to take place in her presence." Dawber, Blanchard and Lyons are due to be sentenced at a later date. Two other members of the ring have been jailed. A third is awaiting sentence.
