Issue:- 31 March 2010

THIS was one of the 13 gigs across the country that the band has played in as part of their first UK arena tour in 2 years. As far as we know this has been a sell out at all the venues. The 29 March 2011 the event was opened with the band saying that:- "It's lovely to be back here in Liverpool. It's been 7 years since Five Colours came out and we get to share it with you. This is a very special anniversary." We have these fantastic snaps taken at the event and we now like to know whether your experiences match up to the great event that they suggest. Say No to Cutsˇ

SUPPORTING the TUC rally in London, over 50 protesters from Southport Anti Cuts Coalition took part in a march, which wound its way along the Promenade, up Neville Street and onto Lord Street and ended at the steps up to Southport's Town Hall. Along the way the protesters shouted slogans and a few held banners. Cars hooted horns as they passed the protesters walking along pavements. This was a very peaceful march and those taking part were of all ages and backgrounds.

Kat Summers, who organised it, told us that:- "We are pleased with the march and the size, considering the numbers who went to London, it shows the feeling of the people. After our march it was good to hear the speeches and see those who took part in the demonstration stay to hear them."

Another protester added:- "We have cut back too far, too fast. We are damaging lives with these cuts as well as the long term economy."

One local bystander said:- "I can't see why the protesters are doing this. Do they not understand we do not have the money to keep these jobs. Where will the money come from? The magic money fairy in the sky?"

The next meeting of the SACC will be on Monday 11 April 2011 at the Windmill Pub on Seabank Road, from 8pm.

If you took part in the London Protest or the Southport Protest, let us know what you thought about the turnout. Also let us know your views about the cuts, both good and bad, via emailing us at news24@southportreporter.com.
