Adoption Agency applauds ‘Mothers with a Difference’
THE Chief
Executive of North West Adoption Agency Adoption Matters Northwest
Norman Goodwin has thanked our region’s ‘Mothers with a Difference’
this week ahead of Mother’s Day.
The adoption agency, which has an office in Hale and has placed
children throughout Merseyside from Stockport to St Helens, has
placed 120 children in new families over the past three years and
wants to mark the positive impact these mothers have had on
children’s lives across our region.
Norman Goodwin comments:- “Mother’s Day is a very special time
for adopters to celebrate the positive step they made in helping
give a child or children a new family and home. Some of the stories
we read from these mother’s are extraordinary on the challenges
they’ve faced and obstacles they have overcome to become mothers and
we would like to take this opportunity to thank these special
Mothers for making such a difference to so many people’s lives.”
These mothers even include a mother who went from no children to
adopting 4 siblings at once, and ran out of milk in her first day of
motherhood, while another who adopted 3 siblings was shocked at the
amount of washing the first weekend of being a mum created!
With over 4,600 adoptions made in the UK in 2009 there are thousands
of ‘Mothers with a Difference’ across the UK who will be celebrating
one of their first Mother’s Days on Mothering Sunday too.
With 642 children referred to the agency last year, and over 60,000
children still in care nationally, Norman also hopes that Mother’s
Day may see an increase in interest from prospective adopters from
the region.
He adds:- “Mother’s Day is a time for celebrating family.
There is still a real need for more adopters from across our region
to help give new homes to the hundreds of children still in care in
the North West.”
Limehouse Lizzy 2011 tour
IT is renowned for an
action packed pyrothechnic fuelled explosion of a show, Limehouse
Lizzy continue to keep the spirit of Celtic rock icon Philip Lynott
and his band Thin Lizzy alive, well and dominating stages worldwide.
Attention to detail, playful audience interaction and that all
important X-factor that leaves you with the feeling of witnessing
the real thing have led to their performance being described as “beyond tribute”, by both audience and critics alike.
Following the enormous success of their ˜Live & Dangerous”
& ˜Dedication” tours, the band embarked upon their “Into the Limelight” 2008 tour to tie in with their
appearance on an episode of BBC2’s ‘Arena’ documentary
series of the same name. The tour travelled as far as a headline
slot at the Rhodes Rock festival in Greece, and the Virgin Atlantic
Music festival in Barbados. The band appeared alongside diverse
world music acts, and played a Thin Lizzy set representing the
celtic rock genre.
In 2011 the band's European tour continues to explore and celebrate
the artistic and musical legacy of the hard-living, hard-rocking,
yet at times surprisingly tender and romantic artist that was Philip
Lynott. This year they will be appearing in the UK, Ireland,
Germany, France, Holland and Belgium.
Expect more of the Celtic influenced tracks like ”Whisky in
the Jar” and “Black Rose”, amongst the usual
razzamatazz and classic tracks “The Boys are Back in Town”,
“Sarah” and many others we’ve come to expect from one
of the most highly rated acts on the circuit.

Rugby League Recruitment Continues its Success
WITH the season now well underway
Saints players are looking forward to a great season. On top of
heavy training schedules and family commitments many players are now
also preparing for their careers after Rugby League.
After GPW Recruitment launched it’s newest division last summer,
Rugby League Recruitment, they have been helping rugby league
players find work placements with local businesses. The likes of Jon
Wilkin, Ade Gardner and Paul Wellens have been giving up their day
off to gain valuable experience in the workplace that will benefit
them when they finish their careers in rugby and look for work
outside the game.
This week Rugby League Recruitment has placed Saints prop James
Graham at Rainhill High School. Once he retires from rugby league,
James is looking into a number of careers including teaching English
as a foreign language. With this in mind Rugby League Recruitment
found ‘Jammer’ a placement at Rainhill High School
working in Reading Recovery. Here he will brush up on skills that
will prove useful when teaching English. He is also keen to get
involved in the mentoring programme.
Head Teacher at Rainhill High School, John Pout commented that:- “James Graham is seen as an excellent role model for all children
in St Helens. While he is at Rainhill High School he will be working
with some of our students to improve their literacy and numeracy
skills and he will be a mentor to some others. In addition he will
be running seminars with our elite athletes to allow them to see how
hard work and a great attitude can help get you to the top. James is
keen on a career in education after his playing days, and we are
only too happy to help give him a taste of the variety of jobs
within 21st Century schools. There is a real buzz of excitement
amongst the students that James is working in school, as a Saints
season ticket holder for many years I am delighted."
James Graham had the following to say:- “I’m aware that a
career in rugby league can’t last forever so I’m keen to gain some
experience off the pitch while I’m still at the club. When Rugby
League Recruitment approached me with a placement at Rainhill High
School I was excited to get involved. I am especially keen to work
with the children who may be struggling at school. I’m aware
Rainhill High School have great programmes in place to help get
these students on the right path. Hopefully I can share some of my
own experiences with the pupils and help them make the right choices
while at the same time building on my CV.”
Managing Director of GPW Recruitment, Mark Parish, said:- “We
are delighted that the work we have done through Rugby League
Recruitment has lead to Wello being offered a regular column at The
St Helens Reporter. We wish Wello the best of luck and look forward
to hearing similar success stories from other players we have out on
work placements.”
