Walk of
Witness and Passion Play, Formby

ON Good Friday, 6 April
2012, several hundred people gathered by the War Memorial at
11am, and then processed in a Walk of Witness to the Swimming
Pool in Brows Lane where an outstanding Passion Play was
performed alongside a short service.
Unlike Preston and Port Talbot, this was a traditional
rendition; a very moving portrayal of Christ’s trial, scourging
and crucifixion with the audience involved as the fickle and
hostile crowd. Good use was made of the space and surrounding
bushes which added extra dimension to the unfolding drama.
All this was run by the Formby Association of Churches, from the
written script to the provision of actors from local churches,
with authentic looking costumes, props including the 12 foot
wooden cross and clever stage management (the sound system was
provided and used by Andie Johnson). It was a very thought
provoking experience and the audience were certainly
appreciative. The tradition must continue looking as usual.
