EVERTON LEGENDS TURN OUT IN FORCE TO RAISE FUNDS FOR FORMER PLAYERS

A Squad of former Everton footballers will return to Goodison Park for an evening of entertainment to raise funds for struggling ex-players.  Joe Royle, Neville Southall, Graeme Sharp and Derek Temple are just some of those attending a Sportsman's Dinner at the Goodison Park ground on Friday, 26 October 2012, to raise funds for former players and celebrate the launch of a book about the famous club.  Guests at the event will enjoy a 3 course dinner prepared by the chefs at Sodexo Prestige, which manages conferences and banqueting at the ground, before being entertained by a comedian.  A charity auction will offer the chance to take home a range of signed, sporting memorabilia and copies of the newly-published Everton Encyclopedia will also be on sale throughout the evening.  The book, by author James Corbett, includes full biographical and career details of every Everton player to make a competitive appearance since 1887 along with more than 500 photographs and articles on all aspects of Everton's history.  Many of those featured have benefitted from financial help and other practical support from the event's organiser the Everton Former Players Foundation, which was formed to help not only former players who have fallen on hard times but also their families.

Philip Ross, of the Foundation, said:- "People often forget that players didn't used to get paid the vast sums of money they get now and often struggled to manage once their footballing careers came to an end. The Everton Former Players Foundation was one of the first of its kind in the world and we are very proud of the friendship, support and financial help we've been able to give our former players thanks to the support of the club and the public at events like this."

Jacqui Boyle, Sales and Marketing Manager for Sodexo Prestige, said:- "It will be a fantastic night with great food, laughter, some big name footballers and the chance to bid for wonderful prizes and help some truly wonderful people."
