HOSPITALS at Southport and Ormskirk are meeting all the national standards the Government says patients have a right to expect. The declaration follows an inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) which checks national standards are being met at hospitals, care homes and care services across England.

Liz Yates, Director of Nursing at Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust said that:- "We have invested significant sums in improving patient care over the past 12 months. This has included the recruitment of new nurses in areas of greatest need. The Trust has also made a significant investment in the management of medicines. Staff have put in a huge amount of work, too, to make our management of medicines second to none. They helped design 44 new, bespoke drug trolleys to ensure medicines are stored safely and securely to prevent misuse and mishandling."

The CQC declaration comes as the Trust was named one of England's top performing NHS general hospitals by the healthcare analysts Dr Foster.

In a separate national survey, patients told the CQC they had also seen big improvements in Accident and Emergency care at both Southport and Ormskirk hospitals since their last report in 2008.
