Snow for Easter 2013?

MANY bookies are slashing the odds of a white Easter, as the UK sees the return of freezing temperatures and snow. We took these photographs of the brief snow fall that stuck the Merseyside region on Monday; totally insignificant compared to others parts of the UK, as is usually the case. So what do you, are readers think about a White Easter? Will we be singing "I'm dreaming of a White Easter" or "Frosty the Easter Bunny"? Let us know what you predict and are you placing any bets? Contrary to popular belief, statistically there is a higher chance of snow at Easter rather than Christmas in Britain, according to the UK's Met Office. Also, will the shamrock sported on St. Patrick's Day, 17 March be frosted? And how about starting British Summer Time, at 2am on Easter Sunday with a nice layer of snow?

Email us your thoughts to:- news24@southportreporter.com or on our Facebook Page and also if you can think of any good Easter carol or song titles, do tell!

Liverpool to Host World Book Night Flagship Event

WORLD Book Night is teaming up with the BBC and Liverpool City Council for this year's flagship event which will be held in Liverpool on 23 April 2013.To help celebrate the 3rd year of World Book Night, world renowned authors Philippa Gregory, Jasper Fforde, Jeanette Winterson, Patrick Ness and Jackie Kay will be appearing at a special 'World Book Night Presents…' event held in St George's Hall next to the brand new Central Library in Liverpool which is re-opening its doors on 17 May 2013, after more than 2 years of restoration.  World Book Night is an annual event which aims to introduce books and reading to people who don't often read, or don't have regular access to books. On 23 April 2013, 400,000 copies of 20 specially chosen books will be handed out by 20,000 volunteers across the country, to people in the hardest to reach communities. Another 100,000 will be distributed centrally to homeless shelters, prisons, hospitals and care-homes.  The authors, whose books all appear on this year's World Book Night title list, will be taking part in readings and Q&A sessions, joined by local author Frank Cottrell Boyce. The event hosts will include BBC Breakfast presenter Susanna Reid. Tickets for the event are free, and will be available from 8.00hrs on Thursday, 14 March 2013.  The event also marks the launch of the brand new Liverpool literary festival In Other Words, which will see more than 350 events taking place in the City from 23 April until 19 May 2013. World Book Night is just one of a number of events the BBC are hosting in the City in the coming months.  In addition to the Liverpool event, World Book Night will again host a flagship event at London's South Bank Centre, with appearances from authors Victoria Hislop, Sebastian Barry, JoJo Moyes, Rose Tremain and Tracy Chevalier. High profile events will also be taking place at libraries in Bristol, Kent, Edinburgh, Coventry and Cambridge, organised in association with World Book Night founding partners, The Reading Agency.
