MINIATURE RACERS RALLY SUPPORT FOR BLACKPOOL RACE FOR LIFE

100 miniature pink LEGO® Minifigures cross the finish line of the Race for Life in Blackpool as the attraction supports Cancer Research UK.

On Wednesday, 10 July  2013, those taking part in the Race for Life will run, walk, and dance the 5km to the finish line on the sea front in an attempt to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. And in honour of all of the mums, daughters, sisters, grandmas and friends raising money for the charity, LEGOLAND
® Discovery Centre has recreated the excitement of the race in their Blackpool MINILAND.

Cancer Research UK's Race for Life in partnership with Tesco is an inspiring women-only series of events which raises millions of pounds every year to help defeat cancer by funding life-saving research.

Every hour, around 4 people are diagnosed with cancer in the North West. So women and girls of all ages, shapes and sizes are needed to join together as a formidable army and take on cancer at the Race for Life Venue, along Blackpool Promenade.

Alex Bidolak, Master Model Builder at LEGOLAND Discovery Centre in Manchester said:- "We wanted to show our support for all those taking part in the Race For Life in Blackpool. We thought by adding the participants into our MINILAND this would raise awareness of the events taking place and encourage women to sign up and help beat cancer.'

Liz Booth, Cancer Research UK's Race for Life Blackpool Events Manager, said:- "We are so grateful for the support of LEGOLAND Discovery Centre. Recreating the City of Blackpool in LEGO bricks is a fun way to put the spotlight on Race for Life in the City. We want as many women to sign-up for Race for Life as possible and raise cash for Cancer Research UK. The events are an amazing way to celebrate life but also remember those who have been lost to the disease. Participants may be decked out in pink or fancy dress but what's inescapable is the power and strength that comes from thousands of women joining together to confront cancer. Don't be fooled by the tutus and tiaras - Race for Life is cancer's worst nightmare."

The LEGOLAND Discovery Centre features a Manchester MINILAND, built from more than 1.5 million LEGO bricks, bringing the local area to miniature life with iconic buildings such as the Trafford Centre, and the City's famous football grounds along with moving airships, trains and trams.

Located in Barton Square at The Trafford Centre, the LEGOLAND Discovery Centre is made up of a series of interactive features to immerse kids into a world where their imagination can run wild with creative inspiration at every turn.
