MAN ARRESTED AFTER A CHILD WAS HIT BY SCRAMBLER BIKE IN BOOTLE

MERSEYSIDE Police have confirmed that a 20 year old man from the Walton area has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury through dangerous driving, following a road traffic collision. The incident happened in Bootle on Tuesday, 5 November 2013 and it resulted in an 8 year old boy being seriously injured. It was reported by Police at the time that a scrambler type bike and a quad bike were being ridden, at the time of collision, that happened at 6.50pm, on Beatrice Street in Bootle. They also reported to the media that they believe that after the bike collided with the boy, the rider of the bike rode away from the scene. The quad bike also is reported to have left the scene as well. Just before the arrest Detective Inspector Jon Smith, said:- "This case highlights the dangers of vehicles being ridden where they are not meant to be. Sometimes the riders of these bikes don't understand the consequences for local communities and the harm that the use of these bikes can cause. The boy who was hit by the bike is in hospital and has serious injuries. The manner that this vehicle was driven put the lives of all those who were in that area this afternoon in jeopardy. Anyone who takes to our roads and open spaces illegally poses a danger to pedestrians and other motorists. We are determined to bring this offender to justice and would urge anyone who may have witnessed the incident or anyone who knows the rider's identity to get in touch and give us information to assist our case." An investigation into the full circumstances of the incident is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Merseyside Police on 0151 777 5444 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
