POLICE APPEAL FOR INFORMATION
NORTH Yorkshire Police have
released CCTV of a man they want to speak to in connection with a
sneak-in burglary at the Swaledale home of a man in his nineties. On
24 September 2013, and unbeknown to the victim, a man entered the
victim's home through his unlocked front door. The man is seen to
sneak in and remove cash from the victim's wallet before leaving
through the front door. It is believed that the man had called at
the victim's home several months earlier and asked to use his
toilet. Officers believe that the man spoke with a Liverpool accent.
Detective Constable Karl Middlemiss of Northallerton CID, said:-
"Targeting elderly people is one of the most cruel and cowardly
crimes we have to deal with and we urge members of the public to
contact us as a matter of urgency if they can help identify the
suspect in the images. I also want to urge people to lock their
doors even when they are at home to help deter this type of crime.
If you have elderly or vulnerable relatives, neighbours or friends,
please encourage them to lock their doors and keep an eye out for
any suspicious callers or vehicles at their home. Please call the
Police if you see any suspicious activity, no matter how
insignificant you think it may be, you could help prevent a crime or
lead us to an arrest." Anyone who recognises the man from
the CCTV is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on:- 101, select

Fake 10p coins are circulating in
the Merseyside area
A number of businesses in Southport and Formby
have contacted us about finding fake 10p coins and foreign coins
being passed off as 10p coins. "10p does not seem like a big
issue, but they add up." One Formby business, who did not
want to be named, told us. Our news team have also found a few
variant coins being passed to them in change over the last 2 weeks.
One of the staff in one of the many high street Coffee shops in
Southport has also spotted an increase in the passing off
alternative 10p coins. This is one of the coins a shop keeper in
Southport found in his till, when he was adding up. As you can see
it is the same size as a 10p coin and is the same weight as a 10p
coin and even have similar milled edge, but is in fact a United Arab
Emeritus coin. Another business owner from Formby pointed out:-
"how many of us check 5p, 10p, 20p and 50p coins…. We quite often
do not check £1 coins, yet we check notes! I am surprised that we
don't instinctively check. I was horrified to find over £1 worth of
fake 1p and 2p coins as well, in the last month…" Help stop
the spread of these coins and check to see if they are real UK coins
or not.

Charity calls
for safe roads for all on World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic
Victims
MEMORIAL events are taking
place in Liverpool to remember the 1.24 million people who are
killed every year on the world's roads.
Those who have been bereaved or injured, together with those who
support them, are invited to gather at the memorial to road crash
victims in St John's Gardens, William Brown Street, Liverpool, L3
8EL, on Sunday, 17 November 2013, at 1pm.
The event will also be attended by The Lord Mayor of Liverpool and
other North West Mayors, representatives of the emergency services
and others who deal with road crashes and support road crash
victims.
There will be a minute's silence and then the release of five doves
in memory of those who have died on our roads. On average, 5 people
die each day in road crashes in this country. The daily toll has
reduced from 10 to five in recent years but it is still an
unacceptable toll.
Those attending will be invited into St George's Hall for light
refreshments and the chance to talk to each other.
At 3pm there will be a service of remembrance in the Concert Room of
St George's Hall during which the names of those who have died will
be read. The choir from St Chad's R.C. and C. of E. High School,
Runcorn and St Nicholas' Singers will be performing.
The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims is on Sunday,
17 November 2013. Just one week after we remember those killed in
war, bereaved families, politicians, and representatives from the
emergency services will gather to honour all lives lost and broken
on our roads in a number of events taking place across the country.

50% of all road traffic deaths are among pedestrians, cyclists and
motorcyclists, and this year the World Day of Remembrance is calling
for roads that are safe for all.
"On World Day of Remembrance we stand together to remember the
millions of people who have been killed on the world's roads. Safe
travel, especially for those on foot or on bike, should be seen as a
right not a privilege, just as we expect access to clean water and
air. Until this happens our loved ones will continue to be killed in
foreseeable and avoidable crashes. Let's have roads that are safe
for all." said Cynthia Barlow, bereaved mother and RoadPeace
Chair.
Also adding to this was Councillor Gary Millar, The Lord Mayor of
Liverpool who told the press:- "The World Day of remembrance
is a day on which the City of Liverpool we can reflect on those who
have died or been injured on our roads and the suffering this has
caused their loved ones. But it is also a time when we should commit
ourselves to doing all we can to ensure that there are no more
people who lose their lives needlessly on our roads. The majority of
all road deaths and serious injury collisions are avoidable."
Inspector Mike McFall, from Merseyside Police has commented that:-
"Merseyside Police is committed to working with our partners
to reduce the number of people who are killed and serious injured on
the roads of Merseyside. We will achieve this through the
investigation of collisions; enforcement, engineering and education.
Families of victims will be supported during this time of trauma
following the death of their loved one by our network of Family
Liaison Officers."
Government Back Campaign Small
Business Saturday
FACE For Business has been profiled as one of
Small Business Saturday's 100 companies in the run up to the UK's
1st ever nationwide event to celebrate this initiative.
Following on from the success in America of 'Small Business
Saturday', which takes place on the weekend following the
thanksgiving holiday, the UK will see its first event on 7 December
2013, which is one of the UK's busiest shopping days of the year.

their communities on the day of the event and beyond.
