Southport Hospital radio back in a Heartbeat

Picture shows Cllr Doreen Stephenson, Mayor of West Lancashire 2014/15 (seated), with station manager Bill Jarvis, Eric Phipps from the Trust IT team and Radio Heartbeat volunteers

HOSPITAL radio has returned to Southport after an absence of more than 2 years.  Radio Heartbeat is transmitting to Southport via the internet thanks to support from the Mayor of West Lancashire's charity and a gift of technical equipment from cloud technologies provider Novosco.

Station manager Bill Jarvis said:- "We're thrilled to be taking our service to Southport after 36 years broadcasting only to Ormskirk Hospital patients. The system uses a Barix streaming system and patients at Southport hear broadcasts from Ormskirk 9 miles away a mere 5 seconds after they're transmitted from our studio. I am particularly grateful to the mayor's charity, Novosco and the technical support we have received from the Trust IT team."

Radio Heartbeat is run by a team of volunteers and broadcasts 24 hours a week. Patients can listen for free on the entertainment centre at their bedside.

Cllr Doreen Stephenson was Mayor of West Lancashire in 2014/15 and also raised money for Homestart Central Lancashire and the Skem Men-Aces football team.

CCTV images released after bag stolen from pub at Liverpool Lime Street Station

THE British Transport Police have released a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to about a bag that was stolen from the JD Wetherspoons Pub, at Liverpool Lime Street Station, on Monday, 24 August 2015, at around 7pm.

Investigating officer PC Michael Connor said:- "A man approached bar staff claiming to be the owner of a bag he had spotted behind the bar. He successfully managed to convince the staff member the bag was his by giving details of some of the items inside. The bag, which contained a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 mobile phone, Solo Beats headphones and various items of clothing, worth in total around £450, was handed over and the man promptly left the pub. The owner of the bag, another staff member, later noticed it was missing. We believe the man in the image could have vital information about what happened and urge him or anyone who recognises him to come forward to help us with our enquiries."

Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on, or text 61016, quoting reference:- PSUB/B13 of 07/09/2015. Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on:- 0800 555 111.
