Sefton MBC gives residents formal notice about proposed Nation Trust deal

ON 8 March 2017, Sefton Council published its formal notice to alert residents in and around Sefton that they are considering the disposal of land to the Northern and Southern side of Life Boat Road, known as Formby Point. The exact area can be seen on the map below. If agreed, it would see more than 204 hectares become part of the National Trust Formby portfolio. The area is home to one of the very best mobile sand dune habitats in the entire UK.

Click on to see a larger copy of this map.The dunes themselves offer a home to some of the UK's rarest wildlife including:- Sand Lizards, Northern Dune Tiger Beetles and the scarce Natterjack Toad. The pine woods that fringe the coast are also home to the iconic Red Squirrels.

The land at Lifeboat Road adjoins an area whose significance is reflected by it being part of the Sefton Coast of Special Scientific Interest; a Special Area of Conservation and Special Protection Area for birds.

The area also includes the remains of the World's 1st Lifeboat Station, on the beach at Formby Point. This piece of history is rapidly disappearing and many hope that some type of protection might be put in place to stop its erosion. Other sections of this land include the remains of World War 2 gun emplacements, a Cold War Bunker and even a hidden (land locked) promenade!

Please let us know your views via emailing us to:- News24@SouthportReporter.com, on our Facebook Page or on Twitter!

Also please note that any objections or representations to the proposed disposal must be made in writing and addressed to:-

Mr David Street
Assets and Property Manager
Sefton Council
Magdalena House
30, Trinity Street
Bootle
L20 3NJ

Your objections must be made to the above Sefton MBC address no later than 22 March 2017.
