Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal, opening Edge Hill University facility - Photos

THESE are more photos taken at the officially opening of the ₤27m 'Catalyst,' facility, with Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, at Edge Hill University, on Friday, 18 January 2019.  Did you know that Edge Hill University opened in 1885, as Edge Hill College. It was to become the 1st non-denominational teacher training college for women, within England, before admitting its 1st male students in 1959. Edge Hill University on 18 May 2006 and now has 3 main 3 faculties: Arts and Sciences, Education, and Health and Social Care. Catalyst Key facts...

₤27m investment in the development, part of ₤300m investment in the last decade in new facilities, providing additional benefits to students.

The 8,000 square metre space provides a 50% increase in study spaces and houses the University's Library, Careers Service and Support Services including wellbeing, counselling, disability support, money advice, accommodation, transitions and chaplaincy.

Set over 4 floors the new building:-

Is home to over 230,000 books sat on 5,000 shelves.

Has 900 study spaces, 600 computers and over 100 loanable laptops.

Houses a roof terrace with panoramic views across the Green Flag campus, that includes landscaped gardens. The Grand Lawn, located at the front, along with an outdoor study garden. 2 woodland areas (Woodland Glade and Woodland Garden.)

The Suffragette Garden featuring a central avenue and planting reflecting the colours of the Suffragette movement.

The Ground Floor offers:-

Welcome Desks offering a single point of contact for students and visitors wanting to access Careers, the Library and/or Student Services.

The University Archive housing:- interesting books, documents, photographs and artefacts charting Edge Hill's 134 year history.

Study alcoves, beach hut meeting spaces, group work alcoves and sound station seating offering distraction free reading.

A coffee shop, exhibition space and space for events which doubles as a relaxation area.

Silent study alcoves, private work spaces, group work areas and sound station seating offering distraction free reading.

The 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors house quiet study areas, the library, computer banks, offices and a private study space, that can be use by by both research students and staff.

An added extra fact... It is also with adding that the Catalyst's steelwork is 18m high and if it was laid flat it would stretch over 5 miles from Edge Hill to Maghull. Catalyst has enough copper in its electrical cables to make another 40 Anthony Gormley iron men statues, on Crosby Beach.
