Singing Competition Heats up
Review By Jordana Learmonth.  Photographs by Patrick Trollope.

SEARCH for a Star 2003 performing art competition for the northwest area began on Thursday 31 July with a bang with the first of five shows where 57 hopefuls began with attempts to try out for the prestigious place in the finals and a chance to go through to the national search for a star 2003 and win loads of money.

For the first show of the year Kade Ferraiolo, Bethany Greenway and Suzanne Morris made it through to the final to be held on 20 September at Southport Theatre.

Kade Ferraiolo from St. Helens won first place with a mixed swinging jazzy blues act. Kade is 16 and been singing since he was 7. He went to drama school and come September will be starting his first year at drama college. He wants to try everything in the music world and rehearsals, but in his spare time hang out with his mate and play football.

A coveted second place for Suzanne Morris and a surprise result by this year' favourite to win Bethany Greenway who remarked on the strength of competition this year as the heat was turned up for the following legs of the competition.

Greenway however remains confident of a win, carrying through her knowledge that her life long ambition and steadfast performances since the age of nine saw her go from strength to strength progressing from her efforts last year.

Competition remains strong and given the shock results of the first round, the predictability of Search for a star 2003 seems less certain considering the placing of finalists earlier this week.
