TRADING POST

ST LUKE'S Church, in Formby, has been enjoying a Holiday Club for children each day this week.- the theme being an Indian Trading Post used to convey Christian teaching in a colourful and simple way. St Luke's Mum's and Tot's will soon be enjoying a Teddy Bear's Picnic (from 1.30pm- 3.30pm on Monday 18th August).

England's Northwest tops tourism poll...

THE tourism industry in England's Northwest has been given a vital boost, after being named in a VisitBritain poll of top tourism attractions.

Windermere Lake Cruises in Cumbria came 6th in the poll, and Chester Zoo in Cheshire came 9th. Both have enjoyed a dramatic increase in visitors in the past year, attracting well over a million tourists in 2002.

Blackpool Pleasure Beach was also the top free-admission attraction with a staggering 6.2 million visitors.

Overall UK attractions had an 8% increase in visitor numbers in 2002, proving the British Tourism Industry is on the way to recovery following the blows of September 11th and Foot and Mouth Disease.

The outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease had a dramatic impact on the Northwest's economy, and the NWDA has worked hard to overcome the problems created amongst farming and rural communities and these results show a step in the right direction.
