SPLASH HITS THE SILVER SCREEN!

LIVERPOOL teenagers are making a film - in just two weeks!

As part of Liverpool Splash, 15 plucky youngsters have accepted the challenge to make a complete film, from pre-production right the way to the final cut, in just two weeks.

The lucky team will have a hand in every aspect of film making, from story boarding to sound, and camera operating to lighting, acting and editing.

The five-minute film will tell the story of John, a compulsive liar who causes havoc among his mates.

It is being run by Valley Community Theatre, which provides cultural activities for the local community, including a thriving youth theatre and various film and drama projects.

The Theatre's director and scriptwriter, Edward Connole, said:- "The team will make a film from start to finish.

What makes this project different is that it covers every aspect of film making - the technical side as well as acting. It will give experience and a knowledge of all the different aspects of this booming business."

Liverpool city council's executive member for leisure, Councillor Warren Bradley, said:- "Film is a huge part of modern culture, and this is a great opportunity for youngsters to gain the multiple skills involved in making that possible.

It's brilliant to see Liverpool Splash is having such a positive impact. It's all about entertaining as well as educating youngsters.

Liverpool is fast becoming the UK's film city. Lots of Liverpudlians have reached the top in this industry. With fantastic opportunities like this, who knows, we could have another Alex Cox or Colin McKeown in the making."

Liverpool City Council, Connexions, and Liverpool Children's Fund have joined together to put on more than 60 schemes - right across the city - giving young people the chance to get active this summer.

Liverpool Splash is part of a national project, with 60,000 youngsters nationally joining in last year. It is the most successful scheme in the country, and is set to get even better.
