This remarkable band, led by Antonio Forcione "the Jimi Hendrix of the acoustic guitar", released its first recording in August: Touch Wood on the NAIM label. Antonio's compositions are rendered with passion and fire by this talented group. Antonio Forcione has a charismatic stage personality with the instinct of a musician determined to brush aside artificial barriers, creating an amazing fusion of emotional expression and formidable technique. PHUSH presents…DAY 1 OF ‘IN THE CITY 2003’
A Manchester Electronic Showcase featuring
MELODIC: PEDRO (Live) & DAVID COOPER (DJ set)
PHUSH CONSUMABLES: DRGS (Live), DNCN (Live) Plus DJs XANDER & NEEMO

Live art performance and musical interlude from ROBIN NATURE-BOLD (www.mikedawsonart.com) The bitter-sweet, slow burning folk and electronica pioneered by Manchester’s MELODIC label is perhaps at its best on this summer’s acclaimed debut LP from PEDRO, which the artist himself described as “trying to take a hip-hop aesthetic and expand the range of references to stuff like 20th century classical, jazz, 2 step and early electronic music”. PHUSH CONSUMABLES meanwhile, having settled into their monthly slot at BOTW, offer a showcase of two of their most popular Employees with sublime visual installations from PHUSH TV. DRGS are the Manchester-based duo of Jim Noir and Batfinks. Their coveted debut EP led to demand for live work and the ‘Manchester Music Best EP’ award in 2001. 2003 has seen local hero and “one man dynamo” (manchesteron-line) DNCN release music for labels such as Twisted Nerve, Peacefrog and V2 (remixing Elbow’s ‘Fallen Angel’ single, out 4th August), plus on-line releases on hippocamp.net and an EP ready to go for PHUSH in the near future. With a growing list of fans across the world, DNCN’s sharp stripped-down percussive grooves have brought favourable comparisons beyond Herbert and Akufen. Catch them all tonight!
