Liverpool Parish Church 80th Anniversary of VE Day Service

THE final official VE80 civic event for the Liverpool City Region, which was held on a very hot, sunny day, within Liverpool Parish Church, on:- Sunday, 11 May 2025. The service was had both members of the Civic and Clergy taking the proceedings in what was a very interesting and sometimes moving service marking the ending of the 2nd World War within Europe (1939 - 1945). Within the Civic party where the Lord Lieutenant Mark Blundell, The High Sheriff of Merseyside, Mayors from all areas of the Liverpool City Region.

Proceedings started with the military and civilian standards being bright in, lead by Bagpiper Major Jay Axon, from the Liverpool Scottish Regimental Association.

Those taking part included members of the Churches' Choir who started the service with a brilliant rendition of Sir Charles Hubert Hasting;s Parry's Jerusalem.  swiftly followed by a welcome by The Reverend Canon Bill Abby, who is the Area Dean for North Liverpool and Walton Deanery.  This was swiftly followed by the Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Councillor Richard Kemp CBE.

Others taking part in the proceedings included:- the Commanding Officer of HMS Eaglet, Cdr Richard Fletcher RN, the Director of Western Approaches, Dean Paton,

Special mention should also go to both Danielle Louise Thomas, and the Organist Ian Wells. Danielle sand not only the National Anthem, but with the encampment of Ian Wells, sang a brilliant version of:- "We'll Meet Again."

These are a few photographs we took and some video footage of the speeches.

Interestingly, the historic Church was destroyed during the Britain of Brittan's May Blitz, and parts of the rubble can not be located on the Merseyside Coastline, between Hightown and Crosby Beach, but a small fragment of the burnt wood remains in the rebuilt structure, in the form of a cross, which hangs on the wall of the church.
