Phase 1 of Digmoor affordable housing regeneration project in Skelmersdale is complete

WEST Lancashire Borough Council is delighted to announce the completion and handover of Phase 1 of the Digmoor regeneration affordable housing project in Skelmersdale.

Delivered on behalf of the Council by the Council's building company, Tawd Valley Developments Ltd, this milestone marks the creation of a new block of 12 high quality apartments for social rent in Blythewood.

Phase 1 has been supported by £1,128,000 of grant funding from Homes England, ensuring the delivery of modern, sustainable homes that meet the needs of residents.

The scheme comprises of nine 1 bedroom and three two-bedroom homes, with ground floor units designed to provide full level access and wet rooms, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility.

The development also enhances biodiversity, with features such as bird and bat boxes, new hedgerows, native tree and shrub planting, and sensitive lighting design to support local wildlife.

Councillor Nicola Pryce-Roberts, Lead Member for Housing,
said:- "These new apartments demonstrate our ongoing commitment to estate regeneration, strengthening communities and building social housing.  The apartments not only meet modern housing needs with energy-efficient design and inclusive layouts but also contribute to the wider community by enhancing biodiversity and creating a greener, healthier environment."

The new homes have been designed to reflect modern living standards. Built with timber frame construction, they include air source heat pumps, EV charging points, triple glazed windows and solar panels to power communal areas.

Looking ahead, Phase 2 of the scheme will see the demolition of outdated flats within Blythewood and Banksbarn, to be replaced with 33 apartments as well as thouses for social rent.

In total, the Digmoor project will deliver 45 new affordable homes, all to be owned and managed by West Lancashire Borough Council, providing long term housing security for residents and strengthening the local community.

Nursery mixes fun and learning in exciting build up to Christmas

CHILDREN at Partou Stonehouse Nursery and Pre-school in Leyland have taken part in a host of Christmas themed activities to support their learning and wellbeing; with lots of fun along the way.

Rebecca Bradbury, Partou Stonehouse Deputy Manager
, said:- "Families were invited to attend a:- 'sprinkle of magic' stay and play, allowing them to engage in their children's learning experiences. We had a Christmas dinner day which brought the children and team members together to celebrate the festive season. The team made a donation tree to enable families to help a local children's charity we were supporting and thanked everyone who contributed. The children were especially delighted by a visit from Santa Claus himself, who gave each child a book to promote their love of reading. The older children enjoyed asking him lots of questions and somehow Santa knew all of the answers! It was the perfect build up to Christmas with learning a constant theme."

Set in a former School building, Partou Stonehouse, in Leyland, features spacious playrooms together with one of the largest outdoor nursery activity areas in the North West.

It is also a nature inspired nursery which has created a home from home experience to support children's development and growth whilst encouraging them to have fun and be curious about the world around them.

Samantha Rhodes, Partou Managing Director
, said:- "The team has done a wonderful job in skilfully funnelling pre-Christmas excitement at the nursery into a month of themed activities which assist the children on their learning journey. Partou Stonehouse is a vibrant place to be for the children, families and team members."
