Household support available to tackle cold homes, damp and mould

RESIDENTS who need support to keep their homes warm and safe may be entitled to help this winter. Liverpool City Council has put aside £500,000 from the Department for Work and Pensions' Household Support Fund to help people with energy related issues at home.

The funding can help households dealing with condensation related damp and mould, or those in need a boiler replacement.

It is aimed at owner occupiers who are unable to access other funding routes and who don't have the financial means to tackle heating related issues at home.

Councillor Hetty Wood, Cabinet Member for Housing,
said:- "Too many residents face the challenge of living in homes that are cold or affected by damp, and the cost of fixing these problems can be overwhelming. This scheme is designed to step in where other funding isn't available, offering practical solutions such as:- boiler repairs, dehumidifiers, and essential building work. By providing this support, we are not only improving living conditions, but also helping to prevent the longer-term issues that damp and mould can create. It's about giving people peace of mind that their home can be a safe and comfortable place to live."

Practical support available through the scheme includes:- boiler repairs or replacement boilers if property has no heating or boiler is broken, dehumidifiers to help reduce condensation, repairs to downpipes or gutters causing damp inside the property, and damp proof courses.

Councillor Laura Robertson-Collins, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods,
said:- "We know that cold, damp homes can have a serious impact on people's health and wellbeing, especially during the winter months. This funding will provide vital support to those who need it most, helping families and vulnerable residents to stay warm, safe, and healthy."

Support is available for residents who own their own home and meet the eligibility criteria:-

  • Low income households who receive means tested benefits.

  • Those with a household income below £31,000 and less than £16,000 in savings.

And if they have someone in the property that is:-

  • Over 65.

  • Under 5.

  • Suffering with certain health conditions, such as:- respiratory or cardiovascular issues.

Funding is limited and the scheme will run until:- 31 March 2026 at the latest. To apply please contact Healthy Homes Team on:- 08000121754, or email:- HealthyHomesProgramme@Liverpool.Gov.UK.
