Army of volunteers celebrated for critical work offered to Southport community

THE Salvation Army is celebrating the Southport community spirit thanks to the support it receives throughout the year from an army of volunteers.

Giving thanks this Volunteers Week (1 June to 6 June), The Salvation Army in Southport receives support from over 40 volunteers who give up their spare time to play a vital role in ensuring its community outreach work can continue supporting the most vulnerable members of the Southport community as household bills remain high, food prices continue to rise and more people are pushed into poverty.

Located on Shakespeare Street, Southport, volunteers help The Salvation Army in providing support across many areas including the on-site charity shop and community café.

Captain Alison Hutchings,
church leader of The Salvation Army, in Southport, said:- "Volunteers are a very special part of our church and we're so thankful for all that they do to ensure our work can continue as without them giving up their time so generously, we simply couldn't do as much as we do and the people in need within our community would sadly suffer. The time our volunteers dedicate to supporting us really does transform the community that we serve, they are truly inspirational. Volunteering isn't just about helping, it is about being an active and integral part of an organisation and our volunteers bring ideas that inspire and challenge us to be better, making a real difference to everyone and allowing us to support more people in Southport. We are privileged to serve alongside them."
