Photographs by Patrick Trollope.

THE Liverpool International Tennis Tournament ran from:- Thursday, 18 June 2026 to Saturday, 20 June 2026, within the grounds of the Liverpool Cricket and Sports Club, that was founded in:- 1807.  The main court was provided with a fantastic back drop of the historic pavilion, built in 1880, by Thomas Harnett Harrison, now the Grade 2 structure is the oldest 1st class cricket prevailing.

This sporting event is a fantastic training opportunity  for some of the world's biggest tennis names, before Wimbledon. This year's event might not have been as big as previous years, but that was only due to global issues, but it was still an amazing opportunity to see some big names playing.

The conclusion of the 2026 Qube Liverpool International Tennis Tournament has left the sporting community in high spirits, as the event successfully navigated the demands of elite competition while maintaining its signature charm. Following the recent victory of Liam Broady at the Liverpool Cricket Club, the focus is now turning towards a monumental milestone. In 2027, the tournament will celebrate its 25th Anniversary, marking a quarter of a century of bringing world class tennis to the heart of the Liverpool City Region.

The 2026 edition proved once again that the tournament is an essential fixture for professionals preparing for the rigours of the grass court season. The standard of play throughout the three-day competition was exceptional, with Liam Broady securing the title following a series of commanding performances. The exhibition provided a unique environment where the intensity of professional tennis was perfectly balanced by the accessibility of an intimate setting. This combination of top tier athleticism and a welcoming, fan focused atmosphere has become the hallmark of the tournament, ensuring that every year attracts a dedicated following of tennis enthusiasts.

A key factor in the event's ongoing success is its ability to overcome the challenges of the British climate. Even when the weather proved testing, the dedication of the venue staff and the enthusiasm of the crowd ensured that the momentum of the tournament never wavered. The atmosphere at Aigburth was electric, characterised by a closeness to the action that is rarely found in larger, more commercialised events. This unique connection between the players and the local audience remains a defining feature of the Liverpool International, contributing to an environment that is as enjoyable as it is competitive.

A defining pillar of the tournament’s identity is its unwavering commitment to youth development. Throughout the year, the organisation plays an instrumental role in shaping the future of the sport by hosting extensive junior circuits at the Liverpool and Bidston Tennis Centres. These platforms are crucial, as they allow aspiring players from more than 40 countries to compete for vital international ranking points. By integrating professional exhibition matches with a robust programme for young talent, the tournament helps ensure that the Liverpool City Region remains a significant hub for tennis development, providing a clear pathway for the next wave of stars to hone their skills in a high pressure, competitive environment.

As preparations for 2027 begin, there is a clear sense of ambition to make the 25th Anniversary, (Silver Anniversary) a truly landmark occasion. Since its inception in 2002, the tournament has grown from a local initiative into a major European event, and the upcoming silver Anniversary will serve as a celebration of this heritage. Organisers are looking to honour the history of the event while ensuring that the 2027 edition is the most inclusive and vibrant to date. Fans can expect an enhanced programme that showcases not only the past champions who have graced the courts, but also the future stars currently coming through the junior system. It is set to be a significant year for Liverpool’s sporting calendar, solidifying the city’s place on the global tennis map for another 25 years to come.
