Public Urged to be Vigilant After Callers Impersonate Police

MERSEYSIDE Police is urging the public to be vigilant after reports calls had been received from people purporting to be from Merseyside Police and asking for payment over the phone. It was reported the calls appeared to be from a genuine Merseyside Police switchboard number:- 01517096010, but that the offenders had likely used caller ID spoofing. Most identified it as a scam and did not disclose sensitive information, but 1 caller did transfer a significant quantity of money. The offenders claimed to be Officers or Cyber Crime Officers from Merseyside Police.

The offenders claimed someone had been arrested with the victim's ID, passport or personal details; that the victim was linked to a cyber crime investigation; that property had been seized during Police riads containing the victim's details and that cryptocurrency accounts had been compromised.

Using fake:- Officer Names, Collar Numbers and Crime References, the offenders asked questions in an effort to extract information about:- cryptocurrency held, banking arrangements, personal details and online accounts.

An investigation is underway and CCTV and witness enquiries are being carried out into the incidents.

Detective Sergeant John Causton said:- "Impersonating a Police Officer is a criminal offence which puts our communities at risk. We will not hesitate to investigate any reports whether on people's doorsteps, on the phone or online so that we can take action and bring offenders to justice. Shamefully, offenders like this often deliberately target the most vulnerable in our community. I would ask people to take a few minutes to speak to friends or relatives who may be vulnerable to such a scam so they are aware of the risks and have the right advice and guidance."

He continued:- "There are a number of steps you and they can take to try to prevent this from happening:- You can always ask a Police Officer for identification. All our Officers have a collar number and a warrant card - if in any doubt, you can always check the name, collar number and crime reference numbers provided are genuine by calling:- 101. Remember, a Police Officer should never ask you to disclose your PIN number or card details, either in person, on the phone or online. If you suspect someone is impersonating a Police Officer please contact Police."

Anyone with information which could assist the investigation is asked to DM @MerPolCC quoting reference number:- 919 of 12 October 2026.

Formby Care Home achieves ISO for diversity and inclusion

LEADING Care Home group Lovett Care, with its popular Formby Manor Care Home on Liverpool Road in Formby, has achieved the internationally recognised ISO30415 human resources accreditation in diversity and inclusion.

A globally recognised standard in human resources focussed on the importance of diversity and inclusion within the workplace, certification provides organisations with a framework to highlight and develop inclusive practices, broaden their talent pool, embrace different perspectives and create an environment where people feel valued and able to contribute.

Rigorous independent assessment carried out over a 2 month period resulted in the prestigious accreditation; recognising Lovett's commitment to creating a positive and inclusive workplace with kindness and integrity at its core and where all employees are able to thrive and give their best.

Going beyond policies and procedures on paper, the detailed assessment required extensive evidence to demonstrate how diversity and inclusion are managed across all areas of the organisation.

The assessment team explored diversity and inclusion in person with the Care Home teams interviewing employees about their personal feelings and day to day experiences working for Lovett Care.

With close to 2,400 colleagues across the group, the accreditation is an important milestone in Lovett's ongoing people strategy.

Head of human resources at Lovett Care, Helen Brown, led the assessment process. She comments:- "We are thrilled to have achieved ISO30415 in diversity and inclusion; a standard that demonstrates that our commitment to diversity, inclusion and equality is embedded across everything that we do and not simply reflected in written policies. Our employee team is 1 of our most important assets. When the assessor fed back to me using 2 words to describe them; kindness and integrity; I could not have been prouder. Achieving the ISO is a great milestone, but it is also so much more than a certificate, it is recognition of the culture we are working hard to create and the experience that our colleagues have every day."

She continued:- "I am incredibly proud to have led this work on behalf of Lovett Care and proud of the teams across our Care Homes who demonstrated that diversity and inclusion are not just words on a policy, they are reflected in how we work together, how we treat one another and the communities that we have created within our homes, communities where individuals from all backgrounds are respected, supported and given the opportunity to thrive."

ISO30415 is valid for 3 years, with annual assessments taking place to ensure Lovett Care continues to meet the required standards and continues to evolve.

With a vision to create caring communities in which our elders thrive, Lovett is 1 of the UK's leading Care Home groups with 28 homes across the UK including:- Greater Manchester, Staffordshire, Nottinghamshire, Yorkshire, Cheshire, Merseyside and now the South East. Filled with joy, togetherness and love, Lovett Care Homes are places where life is truly lived. For more information, visit this website.
