Hale Juniors 2 - 4 Southport FC Juniors
A goal from Stewart Cole followed by a hat-trick from Ross Paskin
helped Southport overcome the disappointment of their cup exit a few
weeks ago by Hale, in a performance worthy of all 3 points. Superb
defending by Jon Davidson, Darryl Jackson, Joe Howley and Jordan
Molyneux kept the Hale defence at bay. An early injury to midfielder
Tom Rimmer could have unsettled the team, but the introduction of
Ben Sykes settled the midfield, who supported magnificantly, really
working hard to ensure the victory.
Formby JSC 0 - 3 Kirky Juniors
Kirky probably produced their best display of the season in this all
Craven Minor semi final to beat Formby 3-0 and go on to represent
the league at Walton Hall County FA ground on April 4.
The game was a pulsating
affair with both sides trying to assert their authority on this
important game, but as the game progressed Kirky slowly started to
take control and dominate all areas of pitch but still the score
remained 0 - 0. Then after twenty minutes Sam Garbett picked up a
Formby clearance and hit a delightful cross field ball to Steven
Williams who hit the ball first time in off the bar giving the
Formby keeper no chance. Kirky continued to dominate as Formby tried
to get back in the game with Craig Riley and Liam Richardson superb
in the centre of defence and Joe McQuade & Jack Sinnott bossing the
centre of midfield. Formbys wide men were kept in check by Ryan
Johnson and James Mea on the right & Sam Garbett & Tom Royle on the
left. Kirky got their 2nd goal just before half time after some good
inter play between Adam Chorlton & Steven Williams the latter struck
a fierce shot into the top corner of the net for his 2nd goal.
The 2nd half started
with Kirky having to replace Paul Owens in goal with Andy Grindle
but the match continued in the same vain both sides giving
everything but Formby unable to break down a well drilled Kirky
defence and few chances at either end in this hugely entertaining
game. Kirky sent on Craig Hume for the tiring Tom Royle on the left
and soon after Adam Chorlton who had been leading the superbly
latched onto a neat pass from Steven Williams to hit the goal of the
game a blistering 25yd volley. Neil Moran replaced Jack Sinnott
towards the end of this magnificant performance by Kirky whose
manager Pete Woodhouse could not pick a man of the match because of
so many outstanding performances. The game was overseen by a superb
set of officials thanks very much to them.

Tom Owens Cup Final
Holborn 1 - 3 Southport FC Juniors
On a a bleak wet early March evening at kindly donated Burscough FC,
current U15 Div 1 League Leaders Holborn played SFCJ in the 2nd Cup
Final of the night and the season. Having only faced the
opposition once before this season, as a result of postponements,
the Holborn side had never seen the SFCJ team at full strength and
were not at the races when Will Tattersall struck a sublime volley
after 12 minutes to place the underdogs 1 - 0 up.
Although being pressed
by Holborn, the SFCJ defence was holding resolute with keeper Jamie
Lopez having really only tidying up duties to contend with until on
26 minutes a fine weighted chip from Mark Brown fell to Graham
Davidson who neatly back-heeled the ball into the path of advancing
Paul Rowlands, the latter stealing a yard with

his first touch and coolly
slotting into the Holborn net.
Following the break, the
rain was turning a fine surface into more of a slippery affair but
still the ‘Port team remained steadfast and with stood any foray
whilst looking ever threatening on the counter. The wet and cold
started to take toll on the players and cramp took several
casualties though a strong dry, if not entirely warm, bench
fulfilled it’s function with Stephen Minghella latching on to a
weighted pass from captain John Cross with a perfect first touch
drifting him past the last defender and coolly burying the ball past
the advancing keeper to put ‘Port 3-0 up. With managerial attendance
having to be made for several more cramp injuries, a further 5˝
minutes were subsequently added to the clock, in the second minute
of which Holborn scored a fine breakaway goal from the right wing,
the pitch being that wet by now that the turning defender,
understandably slipped.
All in all a fine game
in difficult conditions with credit going to both teams and
supporters for the good humour and sportsmanship, so often lacking
in today’s junior football and many thanks to the Craven Minor
League and Burscough FC for allowing this sort of grass root event.

Tom Galvin Cup Final
Barlows 7 - 0 Birkdale United
This game was a privilege to watch with both teams playing great
football from the start in the true spirit of the game .Barlows
started at a great pace with some outstanding movement of the ball
continually creating space for one another. Mark Baddeley and John
Tran using the wings to great effect creating chances for Barlows
strikers Adam Clark and Jordan Turner who was outstanding on the
night. Birkdale continued to defend really well but two goals in
five minutes from Jordan Turner seemed to unsettle Birkdale who
conceded 2 more before halftime Anthony Wheeler and Stephen Gale
dominating the midfield with football of a quality rarely seen at
this age, all credit to Birkdale who continued to battle and play
some good football.
Halftime saw Barlows
make 2 substitutions both teams continued to play football of a
quality the League must have been proud of. Barlows back 4 of Jack
Craig, Jordan Jones, Carl Green and Owen Foulks were all outstanding
keeper Gary Edwards continually keeping them on their toes. Barlows
scored 3 more goals in the 2nd half but it was Football that was the
winner in this game with all the supporters from both teams
complimenting the players from both teams who had used all there
subs ensuring all the players had played a part in a great game of
football. Whilst fiercely contested there wasn’t one dirty tackle in
the whole game a great credit to both teams. Final score 7 - 0. Barlows scorers Jordan Turner 3 Anthony Wheeler 2 Carl Green 1 and
Kyle Harris 1.
Southport's Thai Flame 1st Birthday Party!

THE restaurant
called the Thai Flame, on Bold Street, Southport, put on a Birthday
Bash with a free buffet for customers on Sunday 19 March 2006. The
family owned restaurant has been going from strength to strength
over its fist year of trade. We were invited to pop down and
see what was going on... Here are a few photos of the celebrations
in side. Happy Birthday from all of us at PCBT Photography's
Southport Reporter office.
